Last but certainly not least, we’re proud to introduce our president, Lola (she/her)!!

Lola is a third year Computer Science and Data Science major, but because she’s so cool, she’s graduating this year anyway! As a military kid, she’s called many places home, and she’s been in Up Top for the two years she’s been in Salem. Her favorite song we’ve sung thus far is either Eat Your Young or Dirty Laundry. If she had to choose a song for the future, it would be Too Little, Too Late by Laufey or Serotonin by Angie McMahon!

When she’s not doing her presidential duties, she likes painting, crocheting, and going on long walks while listening to music!

Thank you for all the work you do to make Up Top amazing, Lola! 💛☀️

The next exec member to be introduced is our vice president, Maddie (they/them)!! (Yes, our music director and vice president’s names are pronounced the same. It doesn’t get confusing at all. Definitely.)

Maddie is a senior Computer Science major from Tacoma, WA, and has been in Up Top since their second year! Their favorite song we’ve sung so far was a mashup of Misery Business, good 4 u, and Better Than Revenge. If they had to choose a song to sing with Up Top in the future, they’d stick with the Paramore theme and choose (One of Those) Crazy Girls. But besides the music, their favorite part of being in Up Top is how kind and welcoming everyone is.

Outside of Up Top, you’ll often find them reading sci-fi books (they liked Project Hail Mary before it was cool) or practicing Spanish/Korean. Fun fact: they’re also Up Top’s social media manager, so they’re (I’m?) the one who’s making these posts.

It feels weird to write a complimentary send-off for myself, so I’ll just say, stay tuned for our last member introduction!! 💛☀️

Another wonderful exec member is our talented music director, Maiti (she/her)!!

She’s a second year Data Science major from Fort Collins, CO, and has been in Up Top all two years! During that time, her favorite song we’ve sung has been Curses, and her favorite part has been the people. If she had to pick a song for us to sing in the future, it would be Drag Path by Twenty One Pilots.

When she’s not busy keeping us on key, Maiti plays bassoon in Willamette’s orchestra and quintet, and also loves a good jigsaw puzzle!

Excited to see you make the most of your musical knowledge this year, Maiti!! 💛☀️

The first of our exec members to be introduced is our treasurer, Lauren (they/them)!!

They’re a fourth year Economics major with a Philosophy and Classics double minor, and even with all that on their plate, they’re graduating a semester early! Hailing from Redmond, OR, they’ve been in Up Top for all four of those years. Their favorite moment from that time was last year’s ICCA set and getting to spend a day with all their favorite people from the competing universities. In the future, they think it would be fun for us to sing Toxic by Britney Spears or Dirty Little Secret by The All-American Rejects.

When they’re not laying down our basslines or balancing our budget, Lauren loves to hike, read, go to the coast, and hang out with their cat Mowgli.

We’ll cherish every minute of our last semester singing with you, Lauren!! 💛☀️

Also returning to Up Top this year is Emma (she/her)!!

She’s a fourth year English major with a creative writing focus, and lives in the Bay Area but considers Santa Fe her home. Since joining Up Top a year ago, her favorite song we’ve sung is Curses because of its crunchy harmonies. A song she’d like to hear us sing is Scarborough Fair by Celtic Woman!

Outside of rehearsal, Emma likes to knit (as seen in our summer post), write stories, read books, and go on long walks.

Another returning member is Maya (she/her)!!

She’s a fourth year Physics major who’s been in Up Top her entire time at Willamette! Her favorite song we’ve sung so far is Rhiannon from her freshman year, and she’d love to sing Don’t You Want Me by The Human League. When Maya’s not busy boots-and-cats-ing, she’s doing Physics homework mostly, but also sewing, reading, painting, and baking.

The first of our returning members is Jo (she/they)!!

She’s a fourth year Biology major from Lakewood, CO, and is coming back for her fourth semester in Up Top after studying abroad in New Zealand! Their favorite song we’ve sung so far is an older number of ours, Rhiannon, and if they could pick a song for us to sing they’d choose Upside Down by Jack Johnson.

Besides making music with Up Top, Jo likes listening to music, being outdoors, and making art.

Another year, another set of Up Top introductions… We’re so excited to introduce all of our wonderful 2026-27 members! We’ll start with our new addition :)

Joining Up Top this year is… Sarah (they/she)!!

They’re a third year Creative Writing major who, when asked what they’re most excited to do in Up Top, said “to boogie” – a most incredible answer. If she could choose a song to sing with us in the future, she’d choose The Golden Age by The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. They also enjoy writing stories, drawing, cooking/baking, and crafts.

The first two weeks of classes are almost over, and here at Up Top, we’re longing for our summer adventures… but at least we’re back singing together!
