We’re grateful to the Salisbury Police Department for raising awareness about a form of trafficking that is often misunderstood.

Victims can be lured by promises of legitimate, well-paying jobs and then forced to carry out online scams under threats, violence, and control. They may appear to be committing a crime, but many are being exploited behind the screen.

On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, let’s remember: trafficking can take many forms, and recognizing the signs matters. 💙

Beware of suspicious or too-good-to-be-true high paying job ads.
Around the world people are being trafficked and forced into various jobs and crimes. While the US has the Blue Campaign in January, the world uses July 30th to bring awareness to this modern day slavery. However, every day we should learn the signs, support survivor recovery, and save a life! 🔈

🔹Trafficking for Forced Criminality: Criminal networks exploit thousands of people globally, forcing them to execute complex internet fraud.
🔹The Deceptive Trap: Victims are lured abroad via fake job advertisements promising legitimate corporate or tech employment.
🔹Scam Compounds: Upon arrival, victims are isolated in heavily guarded illegal compounds, stripped of documents, and subjected to surveillance and violence.
🔹Types of Online Fraud: Captive workers are coerced into operating cryptocurrency fraud, high-dollar romance scams, and illegal gambling lines.
🔹Victims, Not Criminals: The International Organization for Migration and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime emphasize that people forced into scam centers are victims who require protection and psychological care rather than prosecution.

💬 It’s Teen Talk Tuesday with Project LIGHT!

As we wrap up our summer Teen Talk Tuesday series, we want to leave you with one final challenge.

At the beginning of this series, we challenged you to take a break from social media. As you head into a new school year, we want to challenge you again:

Make space for life beyond the screen.

We know it’s not always easy. When you find yourself reaching for your phone to scroll, pause and ask yourself:

Is social media adding something positive to my life?

Does it help me feel confident and content, or does it leave me comparing myself to others?

Am I spending more time online than I want to?

If stepping away completely feels impossible, start small. Set boundaries. Choose a time to scroll instead of scrolling whenever you feel the urge. Delay the habit, and make room for things that help you grow.

Spend that extra time:
📚 Focusing on school
🎨 Learning something new
🏀 Trying something you enjoy
🤝 Building real-life friendships
🌱 Investing in yourself

You may be surprised by how much better you feel when you spend less time comparing and more time living.
