I need to take a minute to be sappy 🥹

I almost didn't write this book, guys. Back when I first started writing romance, it was all 3rd POV and serious. After I was knee deep in my MMA series, I was dying to write a 1st POV rom-com, but I told myself I couldn't. Or rather, that I SHOULDN'T.

Because I wasn't funny enough.

Because others did it better.

Because what a cop-out it would be to write a story based on Sandusky, OH, my hometown, when I could pick literally anywhere else in the world?

I know now these are are symptoms of self-sabotage. And I'm SO glad I didn't listen to that voice. Instead of admitting defeat via not even trying, I wrote Make Me Lose. I had SO much fun doing it. And then I went on to write 5 more books set in small town Bayshore, which I modeled after the Sandusky, Huron and Vermilion area on the north coast of Ohio.

I'll admit, the books did absolutely NOTHING when I first launched. I put them into KU and it was crickets. I felt worse and worse about my books; my entire career in fact. And then one day, I made the decision to change my strategy.

I put the books wide, I made Make Me Lose free. I did things differently than before. People downloaded Make Me Lose in droves, and began to read the entire series.

I WAS FLABBERGASTED. You mean the books that went unnoticed for YEARS were finally finding fans?! I almost couldn't believe it...until one day, 2 years ago, Make Me Lose had a *very* excellent promo and hit #1 in the Amazon free store. I cried.

(For those of you who don't hear authors talk about the business side of things, let me tell you, climbing the free charts isn't as easy as it sounds!)

As time goes on, my little almost-didn't-happen town of Bayshore continues to find even more fans.

And now...TODAY...it hit #1 on Apple Books.

And yes, I'm crying again.

Because I think about how close I was to never writing these books. And I know there are others out there doing the same thing right now, telling themselves not to go after a deeply-desired dream because of X, Y, Z reasons.

I'm not the funniest person in the world, guys. But if my books can make one person spit out their drink or laugh so hard they wake their spouse up from a dead sleep, I'm REAL happy with that.

I have so much more I want to say (this is why I'm a novelist), but I'll end it on this.
