The Ohio Coastal Management Program is administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. It is housed within the Office of Coastal Management.
The Ohio Coastal Management Program was federally approved in 1997 and incorporates 41 management policies that utilize the authorities and programs of a variety of State of Ohio agencies. Three major approaches are used to implement the program, including:
1) Financial Assistance to local communities, universities, non-profits, and other partners – primarily through the Coastal Management Assist

Today we attended the ribbon cutting for the Park District of Ottawa County’s Islander Woods and Trailhead in Catawba Island Township, which is now open to the public! The Ohio Coastal Management Program provided grant funding for a planned wildlife observation deck at the park!

To help celebrate , the Ohio Program has released a fully updated Lake Erie Public Access Guidebook, which highlights 201 public access sites and 320 sites located along the 14 major river systems that flow into the lake.
Free copies of the guidebook are available at our office in Sandusky and more than 30 locations in the Lake Erie coastal region while supplies last!

Today kicks off the 2026 Great Lakes Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Landing Blitz from June 29th - July 12th! During the period in Ohio, partnering organizations, marinas, park naturalists, and agencies come together to raise awareness of aquatic invasive species and how to prevent their spread. Find an event to attend at https://www.glc.org/work/blitz and contact us at [email protected] if interested in getting involved for future events.
Also known as aquatic hitchhikers, the invasive plants and animals find their way onto boats, trailers, and gear that can be spread to other waterbodies. Anytime you take boats, personal watercraft, or any gear into a waterbody, remembering these three actions can be a huge help: Clean, Drain, Dry!

With heavy hearts, we wanted to share that our beloved Newton has passed. For 14 years, Newton has brought so much joy to Gibraltar Island as a hard-working Stone Lab staff member keeping the island free of Canada Geese and bringing happiness to students attending field trips and courses.
He was beloved by all and his place on the island will be forever missed.
Please join us in sharing your favorite moments and photos to pay tribute to his incredible legacy.
