When we renovated our Marina Medical office a few years ago, we had one big goal in mind: bring the outside in. We put in new, larger windows and they've completely transformed the space.

The team at now get a front-row seat to the changing seasons, gorgeous green trees, and our neighbors walking by. Itโ€™s amazing how a little natural light and a view can change your whole day.

Next time youโ€™re passing by or stopping in, take at the windows, they're a beautiful reminder of the vibrant, connected community weโ€™re so lucky to be a part of right here.

Happy International Day of Friendship! To celebrate, weโ€™re shouting out two great friends who recently pitched in to help Mike plant two Burr Oak trees on the City boulevard outside the Sandusky History Museum at the Follett House.

These trees are planted in honor of a few milestones: the 50th Anniversary of the Sandusky Library managing this historic property, as well as Americaโ€™s 250th.

Planting trees is hard work, but itโ€™s always easier (and way more fun) when youโ€™re doing it with others. We are so incredibly grateful for the friends who showed up, dug in, and helped us leave Sandusky a little better than we found it.

If you ask us, some of the best days of summer aren't the big, busy ones. Theyโ€™re the quiet ones spent with your favorite people, doing the simplest things, like hunting for the perfect flat stone to skip across the water.

This throwback photo is from a few years ago at Loverโ€™s Lane in Milan, capturing our son and his littles down by the crick. Itโ€™s a gentle reminder that summer doesn't need a grand itinerary. Sometimes, all it takes is a sunny afternoon, a slow current, and all the rocks you could want.

Take a cue from these guys today: slow down, find a quiet spot, and just enjoy the view.

When we were dreaming about SMDC's little park, we knew it needed a dedicated spot to just slow down. Thatโ€™s why we installed this bench.

On these gorgeous July days it can be hard to take a minute break. Summer flies by, and itโ€™s worth taking the time to relax, breathe, and appreciate what a lovely spot in the world we have right here in Sandusky.

Sometimes, finding our roots means digging a little deeper: while planting a tree at one of our properties, Mike uncovered this fascinating horn coral fossil. Technically known as a fossilized solitary rugose coral, it's estimated to be between 380 and 400 million years old, dating back to the Middle Devonian period.

One of the most striking features is the starburst pattern visible in the fossil, a reminder that this was once a living creature in an ancient sea. It's hard to imagine, but when this coral was alive, Ohio was located south of the equator and covered by a warm, shallow ocean.

We spend a lot of time planting roots in our community through the properties we care for. Every now and then, we discover a reminder of just how deep the roots of this place really go. Stay tuned for more Fun Finds with SMDC!

Last month, we were lucky enough to plant a new Hornbeam tree near the "new" building at St. Maryโ€™s, and weโ€™re officially calling it the "Ty" tree. ๐ŸŒณ

Sitting on Jackson Street, near the classroom where Ty Roth shaped so many young minds, Ty even rolled up his sleeves to help Mike plant it!

Community is all about the people who shape us along the way. We hope this tree stands as a happy, growing reminder of the incredible mentors who make Sandusky such a special place to live and grow.

One of our favorite parts of the season is seeing how mature trees provide those perfect, cool pockets of shade throughout the neighborhood. Weโ€™re proud to keep neat spaces that keep our neighbors cool all summer long.

Pictured is one of the SMDC properties, an up/down duplex that has nice trees in the city's boulevard and a gorgeous yew in our landscaping bed to welcome visitors.

Come take a walk down Washington Street and feel the breeze for yourself!

There's no place we'd rather celebrate the Fourth than right here in Sandusky!

SMDC is proud to invest in the neighborhoods we call home, creating quality housing where families can put down roots and build lasting memories.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Independence Day โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™
