DEPUTIES UNDER FIRE | A LASPA CASE SPOTLIGHT (PART 2 OF 2)
Two deputies saw a dangerously driven SUV and were forced to make a split-second decision: keep transporting their arrestee to jail, or intervene before someone was killed.
Seconds later, they were taking AK-47 fire.
They fought back and survived. An innocent bystander was tragically killed by a stray round fired by the suspects. Their lives would never be the same.
Years later, the Department wants to suspend them for 18 days over the decision to intervene.
LASPA attorney Tom Yu believes these deputies should be receiving a Medal of Valor, not discipline.

Update on the Julian Vazquez case.
The parties have reached a tentative settlement agreement. Further details to follow.
PART 1 OF 2: OFFICER JULIAN VAZQUEZ CIVIL SERVICE HEARING — Examination of Torrance Assistant City Manager
Something is terribly wrong in the City of Torrance.
Internal Affairs cleared Officer Julian Vasquez. The assistant city manager overruled them anyway, the only officer he has ever done that to, by his own admission, in his entire career.
He has no use-of-force training. No search-and-seizure training. He has never even been on a ride-along with the men and women whose careers he has the power to end.
Julian was never warned. Investigations were stacked against him, and he was ultimately fired for field-training mistakes after he had already passed training and probation.
Then, under questioning by attorney Tom Yu, the assistant city manager couldn’t remember critical details in his own case against a young officer who spent his childhood preparing for this profession, while accusing Julian of failing to cross his t’s and dot his i’s.
The chief knew. The city manager and assistant city manager knew. The City Council has been told.
Nothing has changed.
Attorney Tom Yu’s relentless battle for justice for Officer Julian Vazquez continues tonight. Tom Yu, Esq.
Watch the hearing. You don’t have to be a cop to see when up is down.
Hearings resume tonight at 6 PM at Torrance City Hall.

Today we remember the men and women who gave everything for this country and for our freedoms.
May we never forget the cost of freedom, and may we always honor those who paid it.
