Selia is celebrating a significant milestone and is so happy to share her story on Thankful Thursday!

12 years ago, I walked up the steps of a year long residential treatment program scared, broken and unsure of what my future would look like. I didn’t know exactly what was waiting for me on the other side, but I knew I had to try.
When I walked out a year later I was given something I desperately needed, the tools to build a better life. I learned how to face the hard days, how to keep going, how to make different choices, and most importantly, how to choose recovery one day at a time.
I have continued to make this choice every day. Not just when it was easy, but when it was hard. Every day I make the choice to keep moving forward.
Today, my life looks so different from the life I once knew. My life’s purpose is my babies, husband, family and helping to give back to others in any way I can. I am incredibly grateful for the family and people I have in my life today. These are blessings I never take for granted.
I will never forget the women who walked up those steps 12 years ago. She was scared but she showed up. And because she did, I get to live this life today.
Thank you to everyone who has been apart of this journey with me. Eternally grateful for the Santa Barbara rescue mission Bethel House for being my safe place for a year, being patient with me and loving me until I learned to love myself. My higher power placed me on those steps for a reason.
12 years of recovery, 12 years of choosing myself. 12 years of becoming the women I was always meant to be. I am grateful. I am proud. And I am just getting started. 💪🏽

Santa Barbara Rescue Mission Presents Islands in Sun Benefit Kathleen Baushke Santa Barbara Rescue Mission is holding its 25th annual fundraiser, Islands in the Sun, Bayou 2026, a casual outdoor event, 2 p.m.

This year's Bayou event honoree, Kathleen Baushke of Transition House, came for a tour and luncheon to get acquainted with our staff, Board of Directors, and Women's Auxiliary. We are excited to honor her at our annual fundraiser. Thankful Thursday!

Construction of our new Connected Care Dorm for women transitioning out of our shelter is almost finished!

Our Homeless Guest Services team created a lot of FUN with a photo booth night complete with hair and makeup for all our guests. Thankful Thursday!
