When our youngest son was born without the first layer of skin that acts as a barrier to irritating environmental elements, we were faced with one of the most challenging and heart-wrenching experiences of our lives. Without this layer of skin, our son would develop rashes that would blister, dry, harden to calluses, and sometimes scar. For the first three years of our sonโs life, he suffered and we did everything we could to find him the comfort he so desperately needed. Visits to his primary care doctor, dermatologists and allergists were often ended with them giving us prescriptions for antibiotics and steroid creams. Disturbed by this trend and wanting a solution less medically invasive, we spent hundreds of hours on the internet, made life style changes to our household and applied Homeopathic remedies to our sonโs skin care routine. In spite of these efforts, we were left wondering what more could or should we do. The one obvious solution to our sonโs dilemma was Hydration. We knew he found comfort in the bath, and we set out to find handcrafted soap products that would enhance his bathing experience and that did not contain detergents and other unnecessary chemicals that could irritate the skin. Through our tireless research, we found a soap that is handcrafted with Organic Shea Butter and Natural Oils that facilitates the healing of our sonโs skin. Inspired, we carried it a step further and developed a line of soaps containing essential oils which benefit a variety of ailments from acne and dry skin to smelly feet and rough skin. It is with great excitement that we offer these handcrafted bath products to you!

This is a difficult post to write โ but, in some ways, an exciting one too.
After a great deal of thought, Mike and I have decided that The Santa Fe Soap Ranch will close its brick-and-mortar store on December 31, 2026.
There are so many reasons behind this decision. The last few years have brought challenges we never expected. Mike's tumor and the continued trips to Mayo, along with his recent mini stroke, have reminded us that there are things in life that simply shouldn't keep being put off. We've also reached that stage where conversations about powers of attorney, healthcare directives, estate planning and all of those very grown-up things have become part of life.
But this decision isn't only about the difficult things.
It's also about what we want more of.
More time with our sons and our family. More quiet days at the cabin. More mornings in the garden. Maybe a trip here and there. More time together without always having to ask, "Who's covering the store?"
And we're actually excited about that.
So while December 31 will mark the end of our physical store, it will not be the end of The Santa Fe Soap Ranch.
Beginning in January, our products will be available through our online store. We are committed to continuing online throughout 2027, and after that, we'll see where life takes us.
As we get closer to the end of the year, we'll also be taking a thoughtful look at our product line. Some favorites will remain available year-round, some products may become seasonal, and there will likely be a few that we'll say goodbye to.
We've spent many years building this little business, and it has become so much more than soap. We've met wonderful people, watched customers become friends, and had the privilege of being a small part of your lives and your families.
So between now and December 31, please come see us. Come in and say hello. Stay awhile and chat. Tell us your story โ how you found us, what brought you through our doors, or simply what's happening in your life. We would love to hear it.
There are so many people we've come to know across the counter over the years, and we want these last months in the store to be about enjoying that part of the Soap Ranch too.
We're not quite ready for the big goodbye โ because this isn't goodbye yet.
For now, the doors are open, we're still making soap, and we're looking forward to enjoying these last months in the store with all of you.
And when January comes, we'll simply be doing things a little differently.
With love and gratitude,
Liz & Mike

๐ธ Friday DIY: Turning Tornadoes into Treasures ๐ธ
Last week, we welcomed a new puppy into our family. ๐พ
He's adorable... full of energy... and apparently convinced our garden is his personal racetrack. In one enthusiastic sprint, he managed to flatten a couple of our beautiful hollyhocks and zinnias.
Instead of being disappointed, we decided to save a few of the blooms and turn them into something we'll enjoy long after summer is over.
Pressed Flower Bookmarks are simple to make and are a beautiful way to preserve a favorite bloom from your own garden.
๐ฟ You'll need:
โข Fresh flowers or petals
โข Parchment paper
โข A heavy book
โข Cardstock
โข Self-adhesive laminating sheets (or a laminator)
โข Hole punch and ribbon (optional)
๐ผ Instructions:
Place flowers between two sheets of parchment paper.
Tuck them inside a heavy book and let them press for 1โ2 weeks.
Arrange the dried flowers on a piece of cardstock.
Seal the bookmark with laminating sheets or run it through a laminator.
Trim the edges, punch a hole at the top, and add a ribbon if you'd like.
Now every time you open your favorite book, you'll have a little reminder of your gardenโand maybe even of a mischievous puppy. ๐ถ๐
Sometimes life's little surprises become our favorite memories.
Happy DIY Friday from all of us at The Santa Fe Soap Ranch! ๐ฟ

๐ป Savor the Last Weeks of Summer ๐ป
Late July always seems to arrive faster than expected.
The garden is overflowing, hummingbirds are busy at the feeders, and evening thunderstorms bring that fresh New Mexico air we wait for all summer.
Before the season slips away, take a few moments just for you. โ๐บ
Enjoy your morning coffee on the porch, gather a few flowers from the garden, watch the clouds roll in, or simply slow down and soak it all in.
These are often the moments we remember most.

Before You Throw That Away...
Are you like me?
You get up in the morning, make that first cup of coffee, and spend a few quiet minutes enjoying the warmth and encouragement that comes from those first few sips. Before the day's responsibilities begin, it's a small moment that's just for you.
So before you toss those coffee grounds in the trash, save them for one more morning pick-me-up.
Mix:
1/2 cup warm used coffee grounds
1/4 cup brown sugar
2โ3 tbsp sunflower oil
Take the mixture into the shower and gently massage it onto damp skin. The warmth of the freshly brewed coffee grounds combined with the exfoliation of brown sugar and the moisturizing touch of sunflower oil leaves your skin feeling smooth, refreshed, and ready to take on the day.
Because sometimes self-care doesn't need to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with a cup of coffee.
Happy Friday!
