Inside Refuge, architecture becomes deeply personal.

Beyond its sculptural adobe walls and hillside setting, the home unfolds as a collection of spaces shaped by art, material and craftsmanship.

Substantial wood beams and hand-worked surfaces ground the interiors in Santa Fe tradition, while contemporary art, custom millwork and unexpected moments of color bring an entirely different energy to the home.

There is a deliberate tension throughout—old and new, quiet and expressive, refined and organic. Stone carries from exterior to interior. Warm woods soften strong architectural forms. Carefully framed openings reveal the landscape beyond.

Rather than competing for attention, architecture, interiors and art become part of the same composition.

A refuge shaped by contrast.

Nestled into the ponderosa-covered foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Refuge brings traditional Santa Fe architecture and contemporary expression into unexpected harmony.

Curving adobe forms meet strong rectilinear lines. Native stone and substantial wood beams bring warmth and permanence, while contemporary art, custom millwork and carefully composed interiors add color and character.

Outside, the architecture responds directly to its steep hillside setting. Curvilinear retaining walls create a series of landscaped terraces, while a slender channel of water draws the eye through the property toward views of the Jemez Mountains and Santa Fe below.

At the highest point, a cylindrical guesthouse with a rooftop walking deck completes the composition—another moment where geometry, architecture and landscape intersect.

Throughout Refuge, contrasts become connections: stone and wood, curves and lines, intimate passages and open spaces, tradition and contemporary design.

TRANQUILITY + | THE STORY CONTINUES

The story of Tranquility didn't end with the main residence.

Designed as an extension of the original vision, Tranquility + carries the architectural language of the main home into a Casita and Pool House created for an entirely different rhythm of living.

Facing the Jemez Mountains and bordering 68,000 acres of unobstructed land, the addition echoes the home's Mid-Century Modern influence through clean rectilinear lines, sloping roof forms, steel, stone, stucco and expansive glass.

At its heart is outdoor living.

Deep portals stretch the length of the structure, opening to a 42-foot lap pool, 8' x 8' soaking hot tub, outdoor chef's kitchen with grill, stovetop and pizza oven, and intimate gathering spaces centered around a custom circular stone firepit.

Inside, 1,380 heated square feet provide a great room and kitchen, guest suite, office, multi-use bath, laundry and generous storage—creating a space equally suited to quiet retreat or effortless entertaining.

One property. Two chapters. One continuous architectural vision.

TRANQUILITY | FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Inside Tranquility, the same clarity that defines the architecture continues through every material, detail and transition.

Designed in a Mid-Century Modern vernacular where form follows function, the interiors balance strong architectural geometry with the warmth of natural materials. Three sloping roof planes continue seamlessly from exterior to interior, finished in 3" tongue-and-groove Alaskan Yellow Cedar and creating a striking sense of continuity throughout the home.

Below, highly polished concrete micro-slab floors provide a quiet counterpoint, reflecting natural light drawn through expansive walls of glass.

Steel, stone, wood and glass come together with precision, yet the experience is anything but rigid. Open spaces flow naturally from one to another, while carefully framed views continually return the eye to the surrounding landscape.

Even the arrival makes a statement: a massive 600-pound cold-rolled plate steel entry door, finished with an oversized patinaed brass handle, opens into a home designed around serenity, connection and effortless living.
