☀️ Summer Safety Hero Week 9: Beat the Heat! 🥵💧
Summer fun is great, but too much heat can be dangerous! This week, kids will learn how to stay cool, recognize the signs of heat exhaustion, and know when to ask an adult for help.

✅ This Week’s Challenge
💧 Drink water throughout the day (don’t wait until you’re thirsty!)
🧢 Wear a hat and light-colored clothing when playing outside.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or indoors every 20–30 minutes.
🌡️ Learn the signs of heat exhaustion:
o Heavy sweating
o Dizziness
o Headache
o Nausea
o Muscle cramps
o Feeling weak or tired

🆘 Tell a trusted adult immediately if you or a friend starts feeling sick from the heat.

🚒 Family Activity
Together, create a Heat Safety Plan:
Identify shady places to cool off.
Fill reusable water bottles before heading outside.
Practice taking “cool down breaks.”
Talk about why you should never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle not even for a minute.

🦸 Summer Safety Hero Week 8: First Aid! 🚑

Accidents can happen anytime, but heroes know how to help! This week, kids will learn basic first aid skills, how to recognize emergencies, and when to get help from a trusted adult.

✅ Find your home first aid kit
✅ Learn the 3 C’s: Check, Call, Care
✅ Practice putting on a bandage, and applying pressure.
✅ Go through the items in your first aid kit with your family and learn what each item is used for and how to use it safely
✅ Make sure every family member knows where the first aid kit is located

Don’t have a first aid kit? Create one together as a family! Most basic first aid supplies can be found at Dollar Tree or Dollar General. Building a kit together is a great way to learn how to be prepared for emergencies.

Remember: Kids are not expected to be doctors, they are learning how to stay calm, get help, and provide simple care until an adult arrives.

🦸 Level 1 Heroes (Ages 4-8)

☐ Watch the bike safety video.
☐ Put on your helmet and have an adult check the fit.
☐ Draw a picture of yourself riding safely with your helmet on.
☐ Tell an adult 3 bike safety rules you learned.

🦸‍♀️ Level 2 Heroes (Ages 9-12)

☐ Watch the bike safety video.
☐ Perform a bike safety check (tires, brakes, chain, and helmet).
☐ Create a list of 5 bike safety rules.
☐ Go on a safe bike ride with an adult and practice hand signals.

☐ Watch the bike safety video.
☐ Inspect your bike and identify any maintenance needs.
☐ Teach a younger child or family member 5 bike safety tips.
☐ Complete a safe bike ride and wear your helmet the entire time.

A properly fitted helmet can reduce the risk of serious head injury by up to 60%! Always wear your helmet, even on short rides.

🎆 Fireworks Safety for a Safe & Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

As you celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, remember that fireworks can be dangerous if not used properly. Help keep the holiday fun and injury-free by following these important safety tips:

✅ Always have an adult supervise fireworks use.
✅ Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby.
✅ Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear, open area.
✅ Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes, then soak it with water.
✅ Keep children and pets a safe distance away.
✅ Never point or throw fireworks at people, animals, vehicles, or buildings.
✅ Wear eye protection when lighting fireworks.
✅ Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before throwing them away.

🚫 Never use fireworks while impaired.

Remember, sparklers can burn at temperatures over 1,200°F—hot enough to cause serious burns!
