For CPSWs supporting people worried about where they will live, the New Mexico Health Care Authority programs are an important resource to know about. Safe and stable housing can make a major difference in a person’s ability to focus on recovery, especially as the colder months approach. These programs can help eligible New Mexicans find housing or receive rental assistance while also connecting them with ongoing support. Applications are handled through local providers rather than online, so peers can play an important role in helping clients identify the right organization in their community and understand the next step. Recovery Month is a chance to celebrate how far we've come and the lives we continue to build. For peers, that celebration carries into the work we do every day. Our lived experience allows us to connect with people in a way that is real, and it reminds others that recovery can open the door to a life filled with purpose and new possibilities.

There is so much to be proud of in this community. Across New Mexico, peers are using their experience to support others and strengthen the recovery community. Every person who chooses this work brings something valuable with them, and together, we continue to make recovery more visible in the communities we serve.

This month, take a moment to recognize your own recovery and everything that has brought you here. Then find a Recovery Month celebration near you and spend some time with the people who make this community what it is. This is our month, and there is plenty worth celebrating.
