In my 20 years of doing therapeutic massage, and the various methods I have learned along the way, including the many types of bodywork I've personally received, I have found John F. Barnes', PT Myofascial Release (
MFR) to be the most effective pain and stress relief and holistic health enhancing techniques being taught to therapists. What's really amazing is how intuitive John Barnes has been all along. Aside from his superior understanding of anatomy & physiology, a lot of the methods he teaches came from his own intuition and connecting with his patients/clients. By paying attention to what each individual needed, he witnessed incredible results and his fellow physical therapists asked him to teach what he was doing in his therapy sessions. I consider myself truly privileged to be one of his 100,000 + students and to have actually worked with him one on one in my Skill Enhancement training at his clinic in PA in 2009. Some exciting news is that after over 40 years of formulating and perfecting his methods, science is now discovering and backing up what Mr. Barnes has been talking about! Even though the medical world knew that our bodies' fascia existed, there wasn't much known about it in its living state nor in its significance to our overall health and function. New information on our fascia (connective tissue) is rapidly being discovered and shared by researchers and scientists at the Fascia Congress. The 4th one was held in Washington D.C. Each client that comes to me is listened to. Before beginning therapy, a standing postural analysis is used as a 'map' of how I will proceed. At the end of the first session we discuss a treatment plan which includes home self therapy. I love empowering clients by sharing simple but very effective myofascial stretches to maintain what we've accomplished in their sessions. Self treatment can speed up healing time and maintain optimum overall health. I feel confident in saying that we can think of Myofascial Release as being the 'new frontier' in health restoration and maintenance.
