September was a fun month. Made some new friends, caught some great fish, and a great gag bite nearshore.
More than a couple of captain’s tax fillet’s were collected 😂
There are a few things I see everyday that make me shake my head. While the worst is probably bow riding (dangling your legs off the front of a boat underway), some other things that stand out are driving with the ladder (or powerpole) down and especially driving with fenders dragging in the water. Or driving with 5 fenders dragging.
Some things that may seem minor can turn into an issue quickly. Stay safe out there and make good decisions 🤙🏾
(In making this caption someone referred to driving with fenders out equivalent to walking around with your fly down and it made me laugh)

Fun story with this one:
This king was pretty green when I gaffed him. Took a big run and took the gaff right out of my hand. Slipped right out! Watched the gaff run off, sticking straight up out of the water almost waving at me. The fish was still hooked. I said “don’t lose that fish! I want my gaff back!”
The fish swam closer and I was able to grab the gaff and pull it in. I cheered like it was my first fish. Like I did that time I caught a Bonita on a sabiki rig. I was pretty pumped.

Tip Tuesday! An easy one that’s local for us here in Destin/30A that I use a lot.
I’ve studied the wind/weather/fronts since I got here and have a great idea of what it’s going to be like. I also have a pretty specific go/no-go call that a lot of you are familiar with. But one thing - it’s a long ride over from my ramp so inevitably there’s guys out before me.
Think about it the same way as when you’re driving down a road and everyone is driving the opposite way - seems like they know something you don’t! When I see boats going the other way, or if I see the parasailing companies in the bay- I tend to know it’s rough out in the gulf. They are bigger boats than me and usually it gives me a good idea of what it’s like out there.
Either way, stay safe out there and have fun. If you have any signs you look for, I’d love to know!
