That bright spot is doing more than heating a sample.

Inside the ITS lab, JETS testing recreates the rapid temperature changes and intense thermal conditions experienced by coatings used in turbines and aeroengines.

The team carefully controls temperatures across the specimen to evaluate how the coating and its interface respond to thermal stress over time.

There is a lot of work behind every advancement in manufacturing.

Testing, measurement, and engineering help transform new ideas into materials and components that are better understood and ready for their next stage.

This Manufacturing Day, we are proud to recognize the people doing that work every day.

ITS is hiring a Vibration Test Engineer in Schenectady, NY.

This hands-on role brings engineering and testing together, with work spanning vibration test setup and operation, fixtures, specimens, technical documentation, and real client programs.

If you have experience in a testing environment, strong mechanical abilities, and want to work directly with the equipment behind the data, this could be the right fit.

The tolerance is on the drawing. The measurement proves whether the part meets it.

ITS uses precision measuring equipment to compare physical components against their design requirements, identify dimensional variation, and provide accurate, traceable results.

When small deviations can affect fit or performance, every measurement matters.

Repeatable data is essential, but consistency alone does not make a test representative.

The result also has to reflect the loads, environmental conditions, and operating demands the component will face in service. Otherwise, a test can produce precise, consistent data that does not answer the program’s real performance question.

Strong validation requires both repeatability and relevance.

The fixture should hold the specimen. It should not determine the outcome.

Grip pressure, alignment, contact area, and fixture geometry all influence how load enters a specimen. Too little force can allow movement. Too much can introduce localized damage before the intended load is fully applied.

At ITS, specimen installation is treated as part of the test method because credible data starts before the machine begins recording it.

Short-term strength does not always predict long-term stability.

Under sustained load and elevated temperature, a material can continue deforming over time even when the applied conditions remain constant. Creep testing captures that time-dependent behavior before it becomes a service-life problem.

For components expected to carry load under heat, the right evaluation starts with understanding how the material responds over time: https://bit.ly/4wdtlcz

The myth: the controller setpoint is the specimen temperature.

The fact: the setpoint only shows what the system was instructed to reach. The specimen’s actual temperature still has to be monitored and verified.

If the thermal condition is wrong, the mechanical data can be consistent and still tell the wrong story.

The temperature at the specimen is what matters.

A final result is only one part of a mechanical test report.

The full report should explain what was tested, how the test was performed, the conditions behind the result, and any observations that could affect its meaning.
