The Schenectady Police Department is pleased to announce that Lt. Michael Dalton has been selected as this month’s Officer of the Month in recognition of his leadership, professionalism, and continued dedication to the department and the Schenectady community.
Throughout his career, Lt. Dalton has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to both the department and the community we serve. In his current role, he oversees Patrol Support Services, which includes the Traffic Unit, the Department’s School CEO Program, and canine officers. He also commands the Department’s Crisis Negotiation Unit. These responsibilities require strong coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage a wide range of department operations.
Lt. Dalton is particularly recognized for his leadership during major community events. Most recently, he played a significant role in the planning and coordination of several large-scale events, including Caribbean Day and Summer Night. During Caribbean Day, Lt. Dalton served as the Incident Commander for an event attended by more than 10,000 people. His detailed planning, personnel coordination, and collaboration with partner agencies helped ensure the event was conducted safely and successfully.
In addition to his regular responsibilities, Lt. Dalton consistently demonstrates a willingness to step up whenever he is needed. Whether managing a major event, overseeing one of his many areas of responsibility, assisting department personnel, or addressing an unexpected need, he can be relied upon to take charge and get the job done.
Lt. Dalton also remains actively involved in the community outside of his regular duties. He regularly volunteers at community events and represents the Schenectady Police Department in a positive and approachable manner. His willingness to give his time and maintain a strong connection with the community reflects the Department’s commitment to community-oriented policing.
Chief Brian Whipple said, “Lt. Dalton consistently demonstrates the leadership, professionalism, and dedication that are essential to this department. His ability to manage multiple areas of responsibility, lead during large-scale events, support our officers, and remain engaged with our community makes him a tremendous asset to the Schenectady Police Department. He is very deserving of this recognition.”
Chief Whipple is proud to recognize Lt. Michael Dalton as the department’s Officer of the Month and congratulates him on this well-deserved recognition.
