Celebrating 50 Years of Philoxenia! 🇬🇷

Today was a very special morning at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady as we celebrated the 50th Annual Greek Festival and 50 years of philoxenia — the Greek tradition of hospitality.

Mayor Gary R. McCarthy marked the milestone by presenting the Key to the City to Father Patric Legato and St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Joining Father Legato for the celebration were Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, a representative for State Senator James Tedisco, Rev. Presbyter Neofitos Sarigiannis of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, and St. George Parish Council President Brian Goodale. State Congressman Paul Tonko was able to attend later in the day.

For 50 years, the Greek Festival has welcomed thousands of people to downtown Schenectady with delicious Greek food, lively music, Hellenic culture and, most importantly, genuine hospitality.

Dear Friends,

I wanted to thank everyone who contributed to our Coffee Hour and luncheon on Sunday.

A very special thank you to Brian Goodale, Lucy Brady, Athena Pagnotti, and Gladys Paravalos for their efforts and generosity in helping make the day so special.

Presvytera Catherine, the children, and I felt truly loved and appreciated by all of you. The outpouring of your kindness and affection touched our hearts deeply. Moments such as these remind us of the beauty of our parish family and provide light, strength, and encouragement during challenging times.

We are grateful for the many memories we have shared and pray that God grants us many more blessed moments together.

May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercessions of the Holy Great-Martyr George and all the Saints, shelter, guide, and bless each of you.

Dont forget to check out our "Our Time Together" bulletin and enjoy the memories from the last 6 and a half years!
