Sometimes trust takes a little time.

A few months ago, I met Cory.

And Cory was...highly suspicious of me. 🧐

During our meet & greet, his human showed me around, gave me the rundown, and Cory barked the entire time.

He definitely did NOT want me petting him.

A week later, I showed up for my first drop-in. Cory let me come in, but he was still very much practicing stranger danger. Eventually he relaxed a little, and thankfully we were able to successfully complete several 30-minute visits.

Fast forward to this week. I walked in and got one bark.

ONE.

Cory recognized me, settled down, hopped up on the sofa and rolled over for belly scratches. 🥹

And our most recent visit was even better.

No barking.

He was happy to see me, happily sat next to me, and got VERY excited when it was time for his meal.

That might not sound like a big deal to everyone, but to me, it was HUGE.

Because I remember the dog who wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.

I never forced it. I just showed up, stayed calm, respected his space and let him decide when he was ready.

And now?

Apparently, I've been promoted from suspicious stranger to trusted snack-and-belly-rub provider. 😂

I'll take it.

These are the moments that make this job pretty darn special. 💙🐾

A photograph can show the shape of a leather good. Holding it tells you something else.

You notice the weight of the hide, the feel of the edges, the way the hardware moves, and the small variations that prove a piece was made from real materials by hand. Those details matter when you’re choosing something meant to travel with you for years.

That’s why we love bringing the work out of the workshop and meeting customers in person. If you see The Kilted Leatherworker at a local market, stop by, pick something up, and ask about how it was made.

Have you ever chosen a handmade piece because of how it felt in your hands?
