“Trace, 2013” by Etsuko Ichikawa. ✨
🎨 Details
30 x 67.5 inches, Glass pyrograph on paper
📍 Location
Level 2, Tenant Lobby Circulation
🖼️ About the Piece
Ichikawa’s Glass Pyrographs are made by drawing hot molten glass on heavy paper, leaving the immediate charred tracery of her movement with the heat. It is a way of capturing and eternalizing a fleeting moment, and it gives the viewer the opportunity to see a gesture. In the summer of 2004, while blowing glass at Pilchuck Glass School, I accidentally dripped hot glass on a concrete floor, which made surprisingly beautiful burn marks. It was such an inspiring moment. Immediately I recognized glass as a medium to draw and started using molten glass as my paintbrush to create fire drawings on heavy paper. This is how my Glass Pyrograph series has begun. I see this process of making Glass Pyrograph as a metaphor of my daily life in terms of encounters and impressions. Meeting someone, seeing some event, hearing a piece of music – these encounters are fleeting moments, but sometimes the impressions of these moments take on their own lives.
👩🎨 About the Artist
Etsuko Ichikawa was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She came to the U.S. to attend Pilchuck Glass School in 1993 and worked for Dale Chihuly as a studio assistant for eight years. She became an independent artist in 2003 and since then, has been making art full time. After living in Seattle for 29 years, and traveling around the world nomadically for a year and a half, she moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in early 2023.
Ichikawa’s work has been exhibited internationally, including The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Seattle Art Museum, to name a few. View “Trace, 2013” today at the USBC Art Collection and learn more about Etsuko at www.etsukoichikawa.com! //

A year of blooming in downtown Seattle 🌸✨
Join us in celebrating an incredible year for RMC Floral Designs in the heart of downtown Seattle.
This journey has meant so much more than just flowers. It has been about building a community, pursuing my passion and dream, sharing creativity, and bringing joy to others through floral design.
Every bouquet tells a story. Each arrangement is carefully crafted to awaken the senses with vibrant colors, beautiful textures, and unforgettable scents. Flowers have the power to celebrate love, comfort hearts, inspire hope, and create lifelong memories.
To every client, friend, neighbor, business partner, and collaborator: thank you for believing in my dream and supporting a small, woman-owned local business. Your trust has allowed me to do what I love every day: create meaningful floral experiences for our Seattle community.
A special thank you to and for believing in small businesses and helping create opportunities for female entrepreneurs like me. Your support has been a vital part of this incredible first year.
As we celebrate this first anniversary, I am excited about what lies ahead: more beautiful flowers, more unforgettable celebrations, more connections, and more opportunities to make life more beautiful through flowers.
✨ Be free. Express your essence. Always love yourself with flowers. ✨
With infinite gratitude,
Rosa
