This feels like the first time releasing music where I understand who I am as an artist. I think we can only be understood once we can understand ourselves. Child of Nature (Tape Demos) coming soon 🍂

In my opinion, songwriting is one of the most powerful tools we have to express and vocalize the human condition. I began writing songs as a young kid; I used the exercise as a means to help better understand myself, as well as the world around me.

However in recent years, I found myself creating music from a standpoint that didn’t feel completely genuine. I realized I was favoring songs that might hold more potential for popularity, rather than favoring ones that felt honest. This goosechase ultimately led to a very bitter burnout. I deleted all social media and stepped away from the clutter and the heavy expectations I had for myself.

Sometimes you need to tear down before you can build up. I needed to remove myself from the noise to be able to hear clearly again. In this year-long hiatus, I found myself re-learning the things I once knew how to do. I re-learned to trust the inner-child in me who wanted to pick up a guitar because he loved it, not because he had an agenda. I re-learned how to find beauty in something real, regardless of what others think of it. Most importantly, I re-learned that if humans are imperfect, the art we make should also be imperfect.

This recent journey has been all about getting back to basics. The things we knew as children before becoming smart enough to complicate things. While writing my recent songs, I recorded demos onto a 4-track cassette recorder. The limitations of this 1990’s device forced me to keep things simple and focus on what mattered most: the heart and soul of the song.

While I will be releasing these bedroom demos, I will also soon be going back to my favorite studio (Bear Creek Studios) to record my first full length album. It will be imperfect, it will be raw, but most importantly, it will be me.
