Hello hello! We are wrapping up our cooling wrap community action; last day to drop off cooling wraps will be Tuesday, September 8 at partner locations (shout out to Stitches Wyldwood Creative Seattle Makers for being awesome partners this summer 💕). Shout out to yakima community aid for creating and sharing this pattern. Extra shout out to all crafters, sewists, and makers for putting in care and time into this work— you are all heat stress prevention super heroes! Heat stress prevention like this helps protect and saves lives of those who work outside. We had a goal of gathering 500 cooling wraps this summer— we surpassed that goal so quickly that we doubled it! We shall share final numbers next week after we gather the last of the items.
Mil gracias to everyone participated or shared this campaign. Farmworker justice impacts everyone who eats. The obstacles are large but not insurmountable. Active solidarity with our rural neighbors makes it possible to not only provide care but pushes for safety, dignity, and equity for the communities who feed us.

We know that recovery and healing from disasters take time. We are working on additional pop-ups throughout this fall. Coming up next is gathering school supplies and books for Spokane Valley youth. Donation drive shall be happening on Saturday, September 5 from 10am- 2pm at C&P Coffee Company (5612 California Ave SW, Seattle, 98136). Hola, hola! First of all- THANK YOU ALL for the outstanding response to our fire relief donation drives for Latinos En Spokane Latinos en Spokane. We shall be reporting out next week what you all made possible. Shout out to all of you who donated, shared, or drove. This is work is possible because YOU. Hello community! We are doing a pop-up donation drive this weekend for migrant families and farmworkers impacted by wildfires in Spokane Valley. This is a quick turn-around- HELP US SPREAD THE WORD. In the slides you shall see the specific requests for donations, where you can drop off donations, or other ways you can participate (we need volunteer drivers!). We know that climate disaster is scary and daunting— let us remember the power of collective community action and show up for our rural neighbors. Shout out mask bloc seattle for hooking us up with N95 masks for kids and adults. Shout out to Cameron Moores and Seattle Public Theater for immediately opening their spaces to us. Shout out to Familias Unidas Union for connecting us with Latinos En Spokane — please follow their pages and donate! EVERY ACTION IS A RIPPLE TOGETHER WE MAKE A WAVE.

Hello community! Join Seattle Makers this Thursday, August 6 from 4:00-8:00pm for a Solidarity Sew-along in support of WashMasks’s cooling neck bands for farmworkers initiative. Cooling neck bands help protect farmworkers from heat stress, an increased risk due to climate change. Heat stress prevention protects and even saves lives. Check the flyer for information and please share with fellow crafters. Mil gracias for joining us. Farmworkers deserve safety, equity, and dignity- nothing less!

Crafters and sewists, you astound us! As of mid-July, 763 cooling wraps have been made, gathered, and distributed to farmworkers in Washington. High temperatures in Washington are not letting up— we are keeping this effort going all summer long. Shout out to community partners, Stitches in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and Wyldwood Creative in Renton for distributing kits and hosting donation boxes. Our goal is to reach 1,000 cooling wraps before the end of August. Mil gracias for all who have a participated- solidarity is action! Heat stress prevention work helps protect and save lives.

Climate justice is farmworker justice! Rising temperatures are dangerous to farmworkers. Farmworkers work long hours in the summer, sometimes up to sixteen (16!) hours per day. We eat their labor. The people who feed us deserve safety, equity, and dignity- nothing less. Read through to learn about heat stress, how it impacts farmworkers, and how you can take action this summer. Every action makes a ripple.
Calling your state representative? Ask them to support farmworker bargaining and unionizing rights this legislative session. Ask them to protect farmworker overtime pay (especially if they have previously voted to overturn it- that includes several King County Democrats!). Remind them that farmworkers are at the front lines of climate change and often have no resources for recovery after a natural disaster— ask them to make that relief possible for the communities who feed us and whose labor create an over 2 billion dollar a year industry. Farmworker justice impacts everyone eats.

Buenos días, comunidad! We are proud to partner with in gathering plant starts and gardening tools in solidarity with Skagit Valley Mutual Aid. All donations will be used to support their community garden, feeding many migrant and farmworker families in Skagit County. If you wish to donate money, please visit the link in our bio. Hello community! We have been quiet on this platform, but several actions are happening (community report for March & April coming out soon!). Our biggest action item right now is making cooling bands to protect farmworkers from heat stress (shout out to Yakima Valley Community Aid members for creating this pattern and sharing it with us). With temperatures already breaking records this spring, we know that this summer shall be hot and dangerous for the communities who pick our food. Join us this Saturday, May 9 from 1:00-3:00pm at Seattle Recreative Georgetown location (6521 5th Ave S., Seattle, 98108) in making cooling bands. What to bring? Yourself! And if you are able to, cotton fabric scarps/lengths and/or a sewing machine. We shall be providing hydrating beads. From experienced crafters to anyone with a willing pair of hands (we need help in cutting fabric or adding beads), your participation is needed and makes a difference. Not able to join on Saturday? Check our website (link in bio) for the cooling band pattern and donation drop off locations. Any financial donations this month shall go towards purchasing materials for cooling bands. If you are able, please consider following and donating to Yakima Valley Mutual Aid this spring and summer. They have been organizing their neighbors to protect so many from heat stress and food insecurity in Yakima since 2020. Urban and rural organizers have so much to learn from each other— let this work remind us that we need each other more and that together so much is possible.
