Serving on the board is such a meaningful way to give back to the community that’s given so many of us friendships, referrals, and a place to learn from each other. It’s real work, we won’t pretend it isn’t, but we also laugh a lot. Board meetings have a way of turning into catch-up sessions and some of our closest industry friendships started right there around the table.

We're so excited for this event and getting an evening to celebrate the wedding traditions and cuisines of our BIPOC vendor community, led by four incredible panelists sharing how their own stories, cultures, and childhood experiences shape the weddings they help create.⁠

Doreen Fitzpatrick | ⁠
Born in Tanzania and now designing celebrations across the US and internationally, Doreen is an award-winning luxury planner whose work has been featured in PEOPLE, Munaluchi Bride, and Washington Wedding Day. Her philosophy: the story comes first, then everything else is designed around it.⁠

Khushbu Vyas | ⁠
Khushbu is a Hindu priest who has officiated more than 20 weddings, many of them interfaith ceremonies blending traditions with care. Inspired by her father, who served their local Hindu community back when there wasn't even a temple or resident priest, she founded Marigold Mandaps to make sacred ceremonies meaningful and accessible for every family.⁠

Marc Matsui | ⁠
Marc always puts the music first, mixing everything from disco to hip-hop to that one throwback you forgot you needed. He built the all-star roster at Integral DJs, the most 5-star reviewed team in Washington state with a stack of Knot Best of Weddings awards to show for it.⁠

Michelle Wight | .hmu⁠
A mom of four, which means she stays calm when everything around her isn't. Michelle's artistry is precise and deeply personal, built on the belief that beauty should feel like you on the most photographed day of your life.⁠

Our panelists will share the traditions and values they cherish, the challenges they've encountered along the way, and how all of us can approach celebrations outside our own culture with curiosity, respect, and a genuine desire to understand.

Our final educational gathering of 2026 is happening at the brand new Rooftop at RailSpur, sitting on top of one of Pioneer Square's historic warehouse buildings. The rooftop holds two levels of gorgeous event space with patios, a double height gallery, and gorgeous views.⁠

It's National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Celebrated from September 15 - October 15th, this is our annual month-long tribute to the Hispanic community. What began as a week to commemorate Independence Day celebrations of five countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), it now includes Mexico, Chile and Belize. Along with Día de la Raza, or Indigenous Peoples Day, our month-long tribute more importantly celebrates the contributions, culture and heritage the Hispanic community has so indelibly interwoven into American life today.

Join us in honoring Hispanic Heritage Month in Seattle in these ways:

- Attend the South Park Parade on September 19th followed by Sea Mar Fiestas Patrias, Saturday September 19th and 20th at the Seattle Center Armory

- Visit our local museums to learn more: the Sea Mar Museum of Chicano/a Latino/a Culture and the Nepantla Cultural Arts Museum

- Shop and eat at Hispanic & Latinx owned businesses in your neighborhood

- Donate to .w.i.r.p (Northwest Immigrant Rights Project), which provides direct legal aid to immigrants across the PNW.
