What a summer it’s been! A huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and helped us serve our community.
From YMSL, NCL, Asian Gen, and so many other groups, companies, families, and individuals! we’re so grateful for every hour, every helping hand, and every meal made possible because of you.

Every food donation tells a story of community. 💚
Thanks to the generosity of our corporate partners and community organizations we turn surplus food is transformed into meals for our neighbors instead of going to waste.
Together, we’re reducing food waste, fighting hunger, and making a difference-one donation at a time.

Every weekend, we’re so fortunate to have volunteers helping with kitchen tasks at OSL Serves. Last weekend, BelieversFellowship joined us to make a HUGE batch of egg salad from donated eggs that we used in our sack lunches!

What makes this even more special? Every ingredient used for these sandwiches was recovered before it entered the waste stream—turning surplus food into nourishing meals for our community.

Today we honor Juneteenth-the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

As we celebrate freedom and reflect on our shared history, we also recognize the ongoing work of creating communities where every person can flourish.

Pride is about more than celebration-it’s about belonging.

At OSL Serves, we believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food, compassionate support, and a community where they are welcomed exactly as they are.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to serving our neighbors with dignity, respect, and compassion.

A few weeks ago we welcomed a group of middle school students into the OSL Serves kitchen for a hands-on lesson in food rescue and community impact.

Using rescued avocados, tomatoes, onions, and other fresh ingredients, students helped prepare guacamole that was served alongside our chilaquiles breakfast. Along the way, they learned how food that might otherwise go to waste can be transformed into nutrient dense meals for our community.

Experiences like these do more than provide volunteer hours-they help young people understand the connection between food waste, hunger, and the power of service.

We’re grateful for students who are willing to learn, serve, and get their hands dirty in the kitchen. The future looks bright when the next generation is already stepping up to make a difference.

May was an incredible month at OSL Serves, and it’s all because of you. 💜

This month, our volunteers gave 809 hours of their time to support our mission. You washed produce, sorted rescued food, chopped vegetables, packed meals, served our guests, and jumped into whatever task was needed.

But more than that, you brought energy, kindness, curiosity, and compassion into our kitchen every single day.

One of my favorite parts of this work is seeing people from all walks of life come together around a shared purpose. Whether you volunteered once or joined us every week, you helped make OSL a welcoming place and helped ensure that nutrient-dense meals reached our neighbors throughout the community.

Thank you for sharing your time with us. Thank you for believing in this work. And thank you for being part of the OSL family.
