Strong partnerships create stronger STEM pathways for students.
WSU Everett, one of Washington MESA’s MESA University Program centers, recently celebrated the opening of the new Fluke Engineering Lab.
“Through the Fluke Engineering Lab, students will gain hands-on experience with the same tools and technologies they’ll use in industry.” - Parker Burke, president at Fluke Corporation
We’re proud to see MESA students in the opening ceremony of the new WSU Fluke Engineering Lab.
Opportunities like these showcase the impact of investing in the next generation of STEM leaders by building the skills, confidence, and problem-solving capability they will need to meet evolving needs across industries.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this milestone possible!

First Nations MESA has had many reasons to celebrate recently!
Through professional development at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, including hands-on experiences in human-centered design, automation, neural networks, and physical computing, First Nations MESA educators gained new ideas and tools to bring back to their students.
At Regional MESA Day, middle and high school students showcased their hard work with poster presentations and technical pitches at Heritage University. Students then represented First Nations MESA at Washington MESA Day, where Wapato Middle School earned second place!
First Nations MESA is also recognizing a longtime advocate of the program, Alex Alexiades. As he moves on from Heritage University, the First Nations MESA community thanks Alex for his years of support and wishes him well in his next chapter.

Meet Selah Yolanda Gutierrez, one of Washington MESA's 2026 Scholarship Recipients!
Selah was awarded one of six $2,500 scholarships to support her continued STEM education.
Reflecting on her time with Yakima Valley/Tri-Cities MESA, she shared her experience with MESA’s engineering design competition.
“You don’t need to be a fancy engineer to be able to build something that will make a difference.”
Congratulations, Selah! We can't wait to see the impact you'll make.
“It's about what can you do with that knowledge to benefit all of society.”
Why does MESA matter? Peter Abe, the Director of Seattle MESA ( , says MESA helps students see what they can do for their communities.
Peter Abe began his journey as a MESA student at Garfield High School before going on to pursue STEM degrees at UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University. Now, he’s returned to MESA and is using his STEM background to lead the Seattle MESA Center, inspiring the next generation of MESA students.
MESA is more than a program. It’s a community where students learn how to use their knowledge to give back.

For the first time in several years, over 50 WA MESA leaders, stakeholders, and supporters gathered in person for our Summer Convening.
Our directors and staff connected across programs, reflected on statewide progress, and helped each other shape the work ahead, but most importantly, learned from one another.
Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to share, listen, and collaborate! WA MESA is stronger when we move forward together.
Connecting today’s students with tomorrow’s leaders!
We were honored to have PhD students Abdul-Razak Alidu, Hannah Halstead, and Eliane Nirere from speak with us about their experience with mentorship during the Washington MESA Community Capstone project.
Our students gained experienced insights, real-world role models, and guidance from researchers actively shaping a sustainable future. Thank you to all of our mentors for dedicating your time, knowledge, and passion to empowering the next generation of STEM leaders!
“A lot of the directors and myself included were really blown away by what the students did.”
In this clip, Dr. Lindi Rubadiri-Mujugira, Director of WA MESA STEM Programs, and Dr. Danica Hendrickson, the Clean Energy Institute’s Associate Director for Education & Workforce Engagement, discuss what went into this year’s MESA Community Capstone, from what it takes to complete the requirements, why the details of the program matter, and how true collaboration between partners makes it all possible.
