A magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook the Puget Sound region Tuesday afternoon, with the quake centered near Wauna on the Kitsap Peninsula, according to earthquake data reported by USGS. The earthquake struck at approximately 2:05 PM and was recorded at a depth of about 27 kilometers.

People reported feeling the shaking across Seattle and surrounding areas, including downtown, Capitol Hill, First Hill, the Eastside, Kent and Des Moines.

Costco is putting millions in tariff refunds back into lower prices for its members. The Washington-based retail giant revealed it received $184 million during its latest quarter from tariff refunds and interest, and says it reinvested some of that money into price cuts on everyday items including meat, produce and beverages, along with home furnishings and hardware.

And there could be more savings ahead. Costco says the $184 million represents just over one-third of the total tariff refunds it expects to receive, and the company has already received a similar amount during its new fiscal quarter. Costco says it plans to continue reinvesting the majority of those dollars into increased value for members.

Seattle’s minimum wage is officially going up again. 💰🌆

Starting January 1, 2027, Seattle’s minimum wage will rise to $22.14 an hour, up 84 cents from the current $21.30 rate.

The increase keeps Seattle among the highest minimum wages in Washington, with only Tukwila and Burien currently paying slightly more. If those cities don’t raise their rates for 2027, Seattle could take the top spot in the state.

Seattle adjusts its minimum wage each year based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area.

At $22.14 an hour, a full-time 40-hour workweek comes out to roughly $46,000 a year before taxes.

Seattle might officially be a dog city. Seattle is estimated to have around 180,000 dogs compared to roughly 107,000 children meaning there could be nearly 75,000 more dogs than kids living in the city.

With dog parks, dog-friendly businesses and pups seemingly everywhere you look, the numbers might not surprise longtime Seattleites.
