Why are we highlighting Transportation for our 42nd Annual Golden Gala? Because the need for transportation continues to grow faster than our available resources.

As our community ages, more older adults are choosing—or are forced—to stop driving due to health, vision, or mobility changes. At the same time, public transportation isn’t always practical for someone who uses a walker or needs door-to-door assistance.

Transportation is often overlooked as a basic need, but without it, people lose access to healthcare, groceries, pharmacies, social connections, and opportunities to remain independent.

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (Washington’s 7th Congressional District) joined our Meals on Wheels crew bright and early for a ride-a-long. She delivered meals to her constituents in Capitol Hill with driver Nathan. On the way, we talked about the increasing needs of a growing number of food-insecure, homebound seniors (20% increase over last year’s client base).

We are grateful for the Congresswoman’s engagement with the issues older adults face, and for our dedicated team of staff and volunteers who deliver so much more than a meal – every single day.
