University Congregational UCC
Walking together on God’s transformative adventure, following the path of love and justice as revealed to us by Jesus. May God help us and be with us.
This page is not monitored regularly by pastors. Please send prayer requests to [email protected] We are a progressive Christian community with a building on the corner of 45th and 15th in Seattle's University District, and a church family who is connecting, praying, worshiping, and doing justice from our homes during this pandemic time. Our Covenant:
God of Providence and Grace,
in a spirit of memory, thanksgiving and hope:
We covenant with You and with one another;
To seek and respond to Your word and will, made known and to be made known;
To worship You in unity and diversity, welcoming everyone;
To live responsibly within Your creation, sharing with gratitude the gifts we are given;
To care for and pray for each other, in trials of the spirit and in times of joy;
To encourage each other in the growth of our minds and spirits;
To promote Your reign of justice and peace, meeting hate with reconciling love; and
To reject the false gods of society, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus. Our Land Acknowledgement:
We gather as guests of the Duwamish people on their traditional land that touches the shared waters of other Coast Salish tribes. We understand that their identity and richness of culture are deeply connected with the mountains, valleys, waterways and shorelines that surround us all. We commit to learning about the Duwamish, other indigenous cultures, and historical and ongoing oppression of indigenous peoples. We strive to nurture our relationship with indigenous peoples, especially our neighbors, by joining their efforts to work for social justice and to care for this land. A land acknowledgement is a gesture of respect and awareness of the land and it’s history. It becomes meaningful when coupled with informed action that builds relationships. To start us on the path toward relationship, we will be reading the above acknowledgment of the land our church occupies during the worship service each Sunday, and suggesting personal actions that our community members can take to live into this commitment.

Caregivers Group
Third Sundays (October 18), 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Chapel
As you go on your caregiving journey with your loved one or friend, we have created a caregiving support group. The goal is to create a safe, private space so you can cry, laugh, be angry, and celebrate the connection/joys with your loved one, as you navigate your journey.

UCUCC’s Rainbow Lodge Retreat, October 12-13, Rainbow Lodge
Registration info on the church website!
Join old friends and new for a short retreat in an unbeatable setting close to home. We’ll be exploring the idea of sacred space--where do we find it and how do we create it--with Liturgical Artist Sandy Nelson.
Sandy is a visual artist whose work is an expression of her faith. In her travels and visits to a variety of cathedrals and churches, she has been deeply moved and inspired by contemporary art intentionally created to be a part of the worship experience, a visual feast to nourish one’s spiritual life. Sandy will share images of some of the art that she has encountered, as well as some of the artwork she has done with people in her congregations. She will also lead us in an art workshop so that we can be makers, just as God intended. See the weekly email or the church website for the registration link.

Interested in finding ways to support the young people served by Teen Feed?
Join us Sunday, September 27, 11:30 am, O-Hall for a conversation about how our church community can get involved: from basic-needs drives, to baking homemade desserts, to opportunities for building relationships directly with youth.
Everyone is welcome, and there will be ways for everyone to contribute. Come learn more, bring your ideas, and help us imagine what our partnership with Teen Feed can become.

This month, Hunger Outreach donations will be able to support the Emergency Feeding Program (EFP), North Helpline, and the youth lunch packing program with the YMCA. Let’s continue to help our neighbors with helpful, hopeful, and healthy options!

We’re also looking for someone to coordinate the group, including choosing recipes and shopping for ingredients. Interested in helping sweeten someone’s day? Contact Toni Higgs.

Felt inspired on Sunday, but feeling like you need a boost by Wednesday? Then click The Comma link on our UCUCC website: https://www.universityucc.org/the-comma/
This blog was originally started by Rev. Catherine Foote as a place for “sermon scraps” (good ideas that didn’t make it into the Sunday sermon). The title was inspired by the Gracie Allen quote, "Never place a period where God has placed a comma. God is still speaking," which was the national United Church of Christ logo in the 1990s.
“God is still speaking” also means that you can speak back! Feel free to write a comment on the web site. You can also subscribe, which means you don’t have remember to click the link.
Currently the posts are written by Pastor Deb Jarvis, Bob Perkin, Mary Kollar and Virginia Felton, with occasional guest writers. We hope these mid-week posts act like a spiritual cup of coffee—perking you up when you need it. Let us know how you feel!
