The way a person treats something they care about when no one is watching tells you who they are.

Our co-founder Erinn Nobel spent a week of her vacation on Montague Island, a remote stretch of Alaskan coastline she grew up fishing with her father. She wasn't there to relax.

She lived aboard a boat, flew to the beach each morning, and spent long days hauling marine debris out of the sand and driftwood by hand, filling collection bags large enough to hold ten people. She came home with her hands still swollen a week later.

She volunteered with GoAK.org | Gulf of Alaska Keeper, the oldest marine debris cleanup organization in the country, which has removed over 5 million pounds of debris from more than 1,500 miles of Alaskan coastline in 25 years. The currents carry garbage across the Pacific and set it down right there, on a shore she's loved her whole life.

Nobody asked Erinn to do this, and nobody was watching while she did. That's the part worth sitting with. Most of the work that goes into building a company happens behind the scenes, and it matters who's doing it and why. We talk a lot at ENRG about impact and about actually looking after our people. Erinn doesn't just talk about it. She shows up.
