Go Long
Curated goals and workouts specific to you. It’s your life, go the distance —-
As women, life can be about trade-offs. When you're doing one thing, you're not doing all the others. How do YOU balance the trade-offs of life with how you focus on what needs to get done?
When you're in your mid-fifties and hear this perspective from a 22-year-old, it's refreshing.
This week on the Going the Distance podcast, Jill was joined by Jenna and Shane Shaps. Jenna shared what's she's gleaned over these decades living just a few minutes' drive from her grandparents and watching her relationship with her mother and her parents.
Sometimes showing up is the hardest part... but in families, that's just what you do.

No joke: Jill will buy dinner for anyone who can guess the location in which this photo was taken (must include the specific city).
This week’s Substack is a lot about trusting your gut and a lot about making moves, and a little about falling in love. Check it out on Substack today.
In this installment of the What She Taught Me series, Jill has her first conversation with a mother/daughter duo. Jenna and Shane Shaps joined the pod to talk about all THREE generations of their family (Shane's mom included).
Shane shared a bit about respecting your kids' space and privacy and how important that is - and Jenna definitely appreciated her mom's point of view on the subject.
There's a lot more in this conversation this week. Watch or listen to the Going the Distance podcast today.

No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, the lessons you learn from your parents stay with you. They are the foundation of who you are - whether you choose to continue following them into adulthood or not. You are who you are because who they were (or are).
Great conversation on the podcast this week. Hope you will check it out!

Yesterday was one of those days we all needed to be in our feels. We needed to reflect on where we were, who we became in those days right after 9/11 and who we've become since.
This week on Substack, Jill shared her experience and thoughts about what we can take from the aftermath 25 years ago. While we all have our own stories and memories from September 11th, the team here felt that her message about what we can still find, still aspire to is poignant and needed.
Give it a read and let us know how it resonates with you.

Up for some inspiration? Jill's recent guest, her childhood friend Danielle Hughes (who, incidentally, can really help you with your LinkedIn presence and the words you use for your brand), shares about her 77-year-old mom and her workout regimen.
The What She Taught Me series rolls on and each week we are finding that our guests share so much about their moms, their relationships with their moms and the trials of heading into "caregiver mode." For Danielle, her mom seems pretty independent and strong, so no caregiving horror stories here.
Her mom = GOALS.
Find the episode ( #46) where you like to watch or listen and connect with Danielle if your brand voice needs some help.
Doesn't really matter how old we get.. no matter your career, your status, your role in the world, it's hard to correct your mother - most of the time because she won't stand for it.
This week's guest on the "What She Taught Me" series of the Going the Distance podcast is Shujaat Ahmad, a coach who helps mid-career leaders stay relevant in the age of AI & design their second innings without losing their soul and skills that defined them.
Even Shujaat, who coaches people in high-level careers is careful when he corrects his mother. Hear the full episode - or watch it. It's out now!
Why it's important to get your creative juices flowing in a way that can impact your business. Rebekah Bastian, this week's guest on the Going the Distance Podcast, shares how her creative habits impact her job as a storyteller.

When you're looking to make some kind of change in your life, you've got to have some kind of motivation.
That could be your health. It could be not wanting to be embarrassed by someone calling you out for a bad habit. It could be a whole host of things.
In this week's Substack, "I Can’t Have Just One. I Know This Now," Jill shares her reasons, motivation and implementation to quit her addiction years ago. Any guesses on what that is?
The lessons shared can be useful for you no matter what it is you're trying to quit - or start. Kristen Berman, a behavioral scientist and co-founder of Irrational Labs, talked about this kind of motivation on a past episode of the Going the Distance podcast (find it where you like to listen).
