CJ recounts his history with the band:

It was 2009 when I first visited East Nashville and immediately fell in love. Besides Belltown, it’s my favorite neighborhood anywhere. It felt so familiar: rock n roll, a tight-knit community, the music venue as the hub, great bars, and fun, weird people.

On that trip, Jeff the Brotherhood became my new favorite band, Infinity Cat my favorite label, and the Ryman my favorite venue.

The following year, Jeff the Brotherhood played the old Croc in Seattle, where my head was once again cracked open when I was introduced to my absolute all-time favorite band, Diarrhea Planet, who was opening.

My Infinity Cat obsession grew, and I collected records and learned about the seemingly endless supply of killer Nashville garage bands. It was a scene, and I devoured it savagely. All these bands were legendary and absolutely crushing it.

One band that came up over and over was Be Your Own Pet. They broke up in 2009, so I had just missed them. I was stuck communicating with ghosts, but they always gnawed at me. They were noisy, melodic, ferocious, and just cool as s**t. I was devastated to have missed them but thrilled I could still engage through the power of their recorded music.

A few years ago, they miraculously reunited and released an absolute barnstorming mo********er of a record called Mommy.

I’m over the moon to have them come down and play records after their Barboza show. They destroy live, so do yourself a favor and buy a ticket next Wednesday, then come drink Rumple Minze with us after!

WHY: Long story short, because we f**kin’ love Monster, the superior and sophisticated energy drink. Alas, it is an unrequited love. Monster does not love us back. They disliked this idea, wanted nothing to do with it, and respectfully told us to go f**k ourselves.

Despite this rejection, we’re doing it anyway. Our love remains strong, steadfast, and unshaken.

FOR REAL, WHY?? Our love of Monster is pure and honest. Love is a battlefield. Sometimes it’s one-sided. That’s OK.

We are thrilled that 2 of our favorite Belltown businesses are joining us as co-sponsors of the BYC stage at the Belltown Blast on 8/15! It is now the BYC / Crocodile / Cyclops stage!

Cyclops is the OG anchor of the neighborhood and on the Mount Rushmore of all-time Belltown establishments. We are over the moon to collaborate with them on this stage, but also on a million other things in the future.

And The Croc? What more needs to be said about the best venue around? A class organization, a legendary organization, and our big brother and big sister rolled into one. The new ownership and Hotel Croc reached out asking how they could be involved. We broke bread and brainstormed, and the best way is for us OGs to unite and bring 1st Avenue up to the Blast on 2nd.

This collaboration will continue on through bigger and brighter things to spotlight our beloved and magical home of Belltown.

Big, loud love to everyone involved in both these wonderful organizations who stepped up and contributed time, money, creativity, and passion to this annual killer event. Extra special shout-out to Vindicktive Wings, who supported and donated so the amazing bands can get paid nicely for this beautiful free party!

On Saturday, August 15th, Belltown is coming together to throw the 2nd Annual Belltown Blast!

Spanning 2nd Ave from Battery to Lenora, this FREE, all-ages street fair will feature two music stages, wrestling, BMX, DJs, shopping, a dog show, live painting, and, most importantly, a celebration of our favorite Seattle neighborhood.

In true neighborhood fashion, we’re doing this ourselves, and we could use your help.

Join us in the basement from 5-9PM to learn more about the festival, donation, and volunteer opportunities. Meet the folks behind the festival and discover how you can get involved beyond simply coming down and partying with us!
