We still have a few pond fish available if anyone wants to get something new into their pond before the summer weather fully leaves us. We have a couple of good looking, small koi and a bunch of pond comets left and these are marked at great price points. Now is going to be the best time to let these animals prepare for winter dormancy while it’s still fairly warm. There aren’t many, so get them while you can!

We are having a huge sale on our lace rock right now. While it is volcanic in origin, the outer layers of the rock can be reactive for a short period of time and alter the pH and hardness of a freshwater tank. Lace rock can be used successfully as base rock in a reef tank or a fish-only saltwater tank, but it will not have any filtration capabilities because it is too dense and water cannot pe*****te. There are a very wide range of sizes from small to very large. Come get them while you can!

Today’s message from The Fish Store comes in two parts. First we would like to show off the locally bred, F1 cockatoo cichlids. These are the offspring of some of the wild-caught individuals we brought in a few months ago and they are at a sexable size! Second, we are closing at 5:00pm today because of the Labor Day holiday. We hope to see you in today and hope you have fun grilling!

Here are some images of the locally bred reticulated hillstream loaches that came in from the same customer who bred the Pygmy corys we posted about earlier. These animals love strong water flow and can use their entire body as a suction cup to hold themself against any flat surface in your tank. They will eat some flat algae and small dry foods as well. They are very peaceful fish that max out less than two inches long and can do well solo, in small groups, or big groups.

Even before this week’s shipment of animals from South American and Africa, we received a bunch of locally bred animals. Pictured here are the Pygmy corys, Corydoras pygmaeus. These animals stay less than an inch in size and do really well with any tiny sinking foods. They are very peaceful towards other animals and will spend a good amount of time swimming in midwater.

We received a nice selection of wild caught fishes from South America and Africa this week and wanted to share some highlights with you. This post has some of the catfish varieties picturing the Cw127 cory, Corydoras loretoensis, debauwie catfish (striped African catfish), and the African glass catfish. These animals are all peaceful and do very well in community tanks, so schools of three or more would be our recommendation.

Continuing our review of the newest animals from South America to hit our tanks at The Fish Store, we are showing off the South American puffer, two photos of candlelight tetras, and a great looking batch of red phantom tetras. Remember that the puffers can be nippy. The candlelight tetra is an undescribed Hemigrammus species that stays small, no more than an inch. And these red phantoms? They just might put cherry tetras to shame! 😉

Many of you have noticed the five and ten gallon aquarium kits we have put together here at The Fish Store and we hope that you are enjoying them. Right now, we are making our boxed aquarium kits from Penn Plax and Aquatop a bit more affordable for people who want something less traditional in shape or options with curved glass. The Penn Plax Radius kit and all of the Aquatop kits include a cover, filter, and light fixture with each rimless tank. The Penn Plax Vertex kits only include a cover and filter with each rimless tank. These prices are limited to stock on hand and, yes, are better prices than you can likely find online.

We managed to get a great deal on some API test kits and wanted to pass the savings on to you. There are screaming deals on high range pH, GH+KH, and nitrate test kits. We do have limited stock on these, so the sales will last as long as the stock. We will definitely get in other test kits when they become available, but our source was out of many types when we ordered. Get them while you can!
