So much was stored in my Jackson Building studio … memories, past paperwork, and more than a few vintage treasures. I’ll be posting as I unearth them from the pile of boxes in my home workspace, starting with these sweet sunflower Lustreware dishes from Japan, circa 1940-50. Hand painted, each measures 3” x 1” and is ideal for holding snacks or jewelry, so pretty on a table or vanity. Slight imperfections as to be expected for items of this age, but otherwise in good condition. Hand wash only. Set of four (two orange, one blue, one yellow); $24. Local pick up, please. Message me if you’re inclined.

I guess it’s true, what they say: When one door closes, another one opens. And this time, that door leads to the new bake shop owned by Vince Vu.
Anh Oi Bake Shop, welcome to the Jackson Building.
After a year of popping up around town, Vince has settled in a storefront in Japantown’s historic Osami space. 🍪You may have dropped by the old barbershop during Sakura Matsuri or Hai! Japantown. Now it’s a community hot spot for a pick-me-up snack, drink or special little something.
I think of Anh Oi as a boutique for baked goods and gifts, with Vince as the head buyer who curates the collection. The shelves are filled with small-batch cookies, breads, pastries and diverse flavors created by a rotating roster of local makers.
Thanks to Anh Oi will happily occupy the shop at least through the end of October.
For a real sense of the shop and the mission behind it, follow on Instagram — Vince is not only a baker himself, he’s a delightful writer who sees the world through fresh and optimistic eyes. He’s rapidly becoming one of the accidental ambassadors of , and when you meet him, you’ll know why.

A love letter to the Jackson Building
Well, I finally did it. After nearly 25 years of moving around ‘s Jackson Building, I’m officially gone. I sure am gonna miss it — I didn’t even live in my parent’s home this long!
Back in the early 2000s, as Copy Queen freelance fashion writer, I occupied #102 (which strangely enough is on the second floor), then became Momo Mama at the corner of Jackson and Sixth, and then person-in-flux, back upstairs. And now, I’ve quietly slipped out the back door.
I’ll miss my secret studio, with its polished wood floor and mahogany moulding; the mini sink in the corner, the “Private” entrance to nowhere, and original obscuring glass door. The view of the trafficked street below, framed by green leaves in the spring, and bare branches in the winter. And in the hallway, the long leather walkway salvaged from a battleship, leading the way to the window overlooking the alley, where the mural of reminds us that Never Again is Now.
And I’ll miss my interesting neighbors: the artists, writers and music makers sharing walls with professionals from differing realms, all so vital to creating community.
And mostly, I’ll miss the possibilities the Jackson Building presented to me. It’s is where I found myself, a self that I didn’t know existed. Where I became part of something greater than I could’ve ever imagine. And even though I no longer hold the key to the corridors, you know I just can’t stay away. Stay tuned for more adventures to come. xo Lei Ann
