Syed Sohail, a Muslim man brutally stabbed 15 times in Utah in an alleged act of anti-Muslim hate because someone chose to see his faith instead of his humanity.

These are not isolated tragedies. They are painful reminders that hate, dehumanization, and violence have spread like a cancer through our society. They show what happens when some lives are treated as less valuable than others, and when fear and prejudice replace compassion, restraint, and respect for human dignity.

Every tragedy carries a lesson—if we are willing to learn it.
When fear replaces humanity, innocent people pay the price.
When stereotypes replace curiosity, neighbors become enemies.
When hatred is normalized, violence becomes easier.

When we stop seeing the person and only see a label, everyone becomes less safe.

As Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha today, we're reminded that the heart of this sacred tradition—first embodied by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and honored by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike—is not simply sacrifice, but obedience, compassion, generosity, humility, and care for one another.

A central part of Eid al-Adha is slaughtering a livestock animal and sharing the meat in three parts: for family, for relatives and friends, and for those in need.

Eid calls us to feed the hungry— for many, it is one of the few times in the year they are able to eat meat — uplift the vulnerable, and share our blessings with those carrying unseen burdens. It reminds us that our humanity is measured not by what we accumulate, but by how deeply we care for others.
