𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄… 𝗔𝗜 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱?
AI‑driven data centers are rapidly becoming some of the most energy‑intensive facilities on the grid—sometimes using as much power as 𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀. In several regions, clusters of AI sites are already 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀, pushing utilities to accelerate transmission, substation, and generation planning.
In a new article by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗩𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶, (https://moderngridsolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/MGS_Q4_2025.pdf) we break down what this means for grid reliability, planning cycles, and regulatory design. The piece is also featured in 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀’ 𝗤𝟰 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 “𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗱” 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, available here: https://lnkd.in/gFriwy3E
With U.S. data center demand projected to 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬, one thing is clear: AI data centers aren’t just another load. They’re reshaping the grid—and smart policy will determine whether that shift strengthens or strains it.

🔌⚡ The Great Electricity Squeeze: How Utilities Can Manage Large Load Interconnection Trade Offs
AI data centers, electrified manufacturing, and reshored industry are reshaping U.S. electricity demand—and utilities are feeling the pressure.
In our latest Watt’s on Mani’s Mind blog post, John (JD) Hammerly (CEO, The Glarus Group) and Dr. Mani Vadari (President, Modern Grid Solutions) break down the trade‑offs utilities face as Large Load Interconnections surge nationwide.
They outline the risks—rate shock, capital strain, stranded assets—and the opportunities, from accelerating modernization to de‑risking renewables and strengthening local economies. Their message is clear: LLIs aren’t the problem; they’re the catalyst. The question is whether utilities will lead this moment or be overtaken by it.
If you’re thinking about grid planning, data center growth, or the future of utility strategy, this one is worth a read. Find this and all Watt's on Mani's Mind blog posts on the Modern Grid Solutions website: https://lnkd.in/gasvZEW8

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my former colleague at The GridWise Alliance, Krevat, CEO of Krevat Energy Innovations and Host of "The Climate Champions", a podcast about the people mitigating climate change. We discussed my thoughts on grid modernization and climate change mitigation, what drives me, and my vision of the future!
In the podcast (among other things), I talked about a new approach to Grid Modernization - setting signposts not only for my clients, but for myself. It's really great advice for all of us, especially with the ever-increasing pace of change.
Few of the people I talk to were using AI on a daily basis last year, and now it's difficult to find someone who isn't consulting Gemini or ChatGPT, myself included.
What are the signposts that your job might be going away - and what can you do about it?
Dr. Mani Vadari, President, Modern Grid Solutions - Episode 164 Dr. Mani Vadari, President, Modern Grid Solutions, is an IEEE Life Fellow and electric industry visionary delivering next gen solutions for 35+ years. He teaches future students @ multiple universities and published two popular books on the future grid.

Grid Mod to Energy Mod: where should we focus?
In his latest piece, Dr. Mani Vadari, President of Modern Grid Solutions, challenges the industry to move beyond commodity silos and embrace an energy-agnostic future. With hydrogen, SMRs, and DERs reshaping the landscape, it's time to rethink planning, operations, and regulatory alignment.
💡 The future isn’t electric or gas—it’s just energy.

Grid 2030: Bold Vision or Unrealized Promise?
In 2003, DOE painted an electrifying future - abundant, intelligent, and seamlessly connected. Two decades later, we ask: How close did we get? What have we learned, and where do we go next?
Progress has been undeniable—smart meters, DERs, microgrids, VPPs, DERMS. But the transformation has been reactive, fragmented, and slower than expected.
The lesson? Vision matters, but nimble journey mapping matters more. Let’s pivot with policy, scale with tech, and keep equity, resilience, and sustainability front and center.
Read the full reflection on Grid 2030 - and what Grid 2050 must embrace -from Dr. Mani Vadari's perspective in his latest "Watt's on Mani's Mind" blog post here or via the Modern Grid Solutions website: https://lnkd.in/gWM7JuGx

Honoring those who served, remembering why they fought.
On this Memorial Day in the United States, we pause to remember the men and women who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifices made possible the freedoms we cherish—including the right to debate, dissent, and choose our leaders.
The poppies remind us of Flanders Fields—a symbol of the cost of liberty. May we never take it for granted, and may we always honor their legacy.
