✨JULY MEMBER APPRECIATION: Marina L✨

Marina (aka sunshine embodied) always brings a bright energy into the gym 🔆 She’s been a member at SSP West Seattle for just over 7 months but you’d think she’d been here forever! We remember her very first day coming in and introducing herself to everyone - you never would’ve known it was her first day!

We love having Marina in the gym because no matter how tough the movement is, it’s like the corners of her mouth are permanently turned upwards 🙂 and because she’s always up for jamming to Harry Styles 🪩

When we asked her about her time with us so far she said:

“I joined SSP West Seattle in December of 2025 and in January of 2026 I found out I was expecting my first baby! It was a plot twist for my year, and I am so grateful to have found this community during this pregnancy. I have worked out 2-3 times a week since I found out I was pregnant. The consistency I’ve had this year with strength training has helped me so much with my mental health and I know it has made me well prepared for labor. The people who come here and the trainers are the sweetest and most supportive group - it makes getting to the gym the best part of my days and week. I truly look forward to my workouts. Thank you to the team at SSP West Seattle - I can’t wait to get back to the gym postpartum!”

We feel so lucky to be a part of your exciting adventure/plot twist Marina! We’re so honored to be trusted with your strength training both during pregnancy and beyond 💕

Episode 40 is all about how we structure our internal organization at SSP! 🎙️

Behind the scenes of your workouts, there’s a lot of strategy, thought, growth, and adaptation that goes into creating systems and an organization that can a) maintain the amazing quality of coaching and the wonderful experience of SSP - to keep it feeling like a small gym while b) expanding that vision to as many people as possible!

You might not know this, but SSP breaks the mold of most of the fitness industry in this regard. Head to wherever you listen to podcasts to find out the how and most of all WHY this is so important to what we do.

There’s also a little secret in this episode 😉 see if you can find what it is!

Did you know that your shoulder blades are meant to move?? Scapular mobility and stability is so important for overall shoulder and back health - but sometimes learning how to retract them in the right way can be tricky!

“Shoulders back” is a cue you might hear a lot, and if that doesn’t make sense to you, you can try these!

🖊️ Squeeze a pencil between your shoulder blades
🍊 Juice an orange between your shoulder blades
👕 Show off the logo on your shirt
👜 Squeeze your armpits down like you’re protecting a purse

Different cues land differently for different people, it’s one of the arts and beauties of coaching - finding the right language that works for each person. And that’s what we’re aiming to do at SSP so if a coach ever says something that you don’t fully understand, you can ALWAYS ask for clarification or for them to try and describe it in a different way!

Thanks, Coach Maddy! 🤘🏻

✅ Sense of humor

Natan A. checks all the boxes! He’s been a member at SSP for 9 months and consistently attends our 7am sessions! His work ethic, efficiency and super cool socks never go unnoticed by both coaches and other members.

We asked Natan about his experience with us, and here’s what he had to say:

Why do you love SSP?
SSP has helped me make fitness a consistent part of my life. The coaches and community are incredibly supportive, and it’s a place I genuinely enjoy coming to.

What keeps you coming to SSP?
The accountability, the people, and the structured workouts. I can show up, put in the work, and know I’m getting a great workout every time.

What makes SSP different from other gyms?
The coaching and community. It feels much more personal than a typical gym, and everyone is invested in helping each other succeed.

Progress/results you’ve seen since coming to SSP?
I’ve become stronger, more consistent with exercise, and I’ve noticed improvements in my overall fitness, energy levels, and daily routine.

How has SSP helped you mentally?
It has been a huge stress reliever. The workouts help clear my mind, improve my mood, and give me a positive outlet that carries over into the rest of my day. SSP has helped me stay consistent, get stronger, and make fitness a regular part of my life. The coaches and community make it easy to keep showing up!

We love hearing that what you do in the gym has an effect on the rest of your day ☀️ Thank you for being part of our community, Natan!

Hiking season is here in the PNW and at SSP we want to make sure you’re ready to tackle any adventure. ⛰️

So here are three things we always build into programs for hikers and outdoor adventurers:

🦵 Single leg movements. Trails aren’t flat or symmetrical. Single leg strength builds the stability and control you need for uneven ground, scrambles, and steep descents. Lunges, step ups, single leg deadlifts are all great examples!

🎒 Loaded carries. Getting comfy keeping that core braced under load is important for carrying those heavy packs! Training with weight in your hands or on your back builds the real-world strength to carry a pack for miles without your form falling apart.

🫁 Conditioning. Strength gets you up the mountain. Conditioning is what lets you actually enjoy the view when you get there and not feel like you’re dying along the way!

We had SO MUCH FUN this past weekend out at ! It’s so amazing to see our West Seattle community come together for such a fun event.

Huge shoutout to members Nicole and Linda for completing the race in the elite division, and to Coach Marci for getting those runners nice and warmed up before their heat!

We’ll DEFINITELY be back 🫡

There’s a few things we do differently at SSP😉

But they’re all for the same mission: to bring inclusive and safe strength training to as many people as possible!

Every one of these decisions was made with intention and to make sure that all feel welcome in our gyms!
