Youth auditions this Sunday!

Auditions for The Nutcracker: A Storybook Ballet (Workshop Edition) take place this Sunday, giving young dancers the opportunity to be part of one of the School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s special holiday performances.

From the first rehearsal to costumes, characters, and the excitement of taking the stage, the workshop is a chance for students to build confidence, deepen their performance skills, and create something together beyond the classroom.

Auditions: Sunday, September 27, 2026
Rehearsals: Weekly starting Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Performances take place December 11–13, 2026

*Separate audition times for dancers ages 5–11, ages 12–18, and adults interested in performing as Party Parents. Participation is by audition only, and performers must be available for all assigned rehearsals and performances.*

Spectrum’s adult drop-in classes offer multiple ways to move, train, and stay connected throughout the season. Adult class offerings include Ballet, Flamenco, Jazz, open professional-level classes, and Pilates, and Fitness for Living.

Welcome back to the studio! The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s Fall 2026 session begins today, September 8, and we’re excited to welcome new and returning dancers for another season of movement, creativity, and growth.

Our Fall schedule includes Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Donald Byrd Technique, Pointe, Drama, fitness, and more, with programming for youth, teens, and adults.

Inquiry, Memory, Joy, and Reflection brings together four works that move between experimentation and tradition, personal memory and shared history, celebration and remembrance. The season also marks Donald Byrd’s 25th anniversary as Artistic Director of Spectrum Dance Theater—a meaningful milestone in a year shaped by curiosity, reflection, and artistic inquiry.

The season opens this Fall with OCCURRENCE #15, followed by Localities/An Odyssey Pt. 3. In Spring 2027, Spectrum reunites with Music of Remembrance for Resilience at Benaroya Hall before concluding with the world premiere of Plague.

As a member of the SDT Company, you'll collaborate on work that challenges, questions, and reflects the world around us. Under the artistic direction of Donald Byrd, dancers engage with contemporary dance as both an expressive art form and a catalyst for civic and social dialogue, creating performances that invite audiences into meaningful conversations about the topics shaping our world.
