Abnormals Anonymous

Scenes from the cutting table, where the sample magic happens. ✂️

Our trusty vintage Ingento paper cutter has been with us since the very beginning. We bought it from an architect in Los Angeles 15 years ago, when we first launched Abnormals Anonymous, and it’s made the move with us to every studio since.

And tucked into the mix is a little sneak peek of The Perfect Parrot, our newest wallpaper we’re getting ready to launch. More on that soon...

Home, again. 🌊

This childhood home was renovated to honor old memories and to make room for new ones.

Same address. A whole new chapter.

A new chapter for Abnormals Anonymous...

Moving from Poulsbo to Bainbridge has been a big change for us, and seeing the finished studio makes all of the packing, moving, rearranging, and figuring it all out feel very worth it.

We love our new location. We love the studio. And we really love our new neighbors.

And we have to thank for helping us find our way here. They were the ones who told us about the space when it became available, and now we get to call them our neighbors. Then they went and welcomed us to the building with the most beautiful flowers.

Thank you for being so warm and welcoming. We are overflowing with gratitude.

Swipe through for a little before, during, and after. It’s pretty fun to see how much this space has changed.

And yes, we know there is currently a shocking lack of wallpaper in the new studio. We’re planning to change that in the washroom, so stay tuned. We may need your help deciding what goes in there. There could be a poll in our future…

Bainbridge, we’re so happy to be here.

A very special gift landed at the studio recently: a collection of vintage matchbooks from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

And yes, we absolutely stopped working for a little recess.

Because look at these. The typography. The colors. The illustrations. The tiny logos. The names. The places. Every one is its own little piece of design history.

Many are from California, especially the Los Angeles area, with a handful from other corners of the country. And of course, we’ve been looking up every restaurant, hotel, bar and club to see what’s still around, what’s long gone, and what stories we can find. *Moonshadows was one of our old stomping grounds when we lived in LA and we were so sad to hear that, tragically, it was lost in the Palisades Fire on January 8th, 2024 💔

We find inspiration in all kinds of unexpected places, and these have already sparked plenty of ideas around the studio. New color combinations, type treatments, little graphic details we want to remember. It’s pretty fun to look at something made 50 or 60 years ago and find ideas that still feel fresh.

These were headed for the trash, and now they’re giving us a very welcome excuse to play, research and get wonderfully distracted.

So many stories are wrapped up in these tiny matchbooks. We’re having a ridiculous amount of fun with them.

Do you recognize any of these? Have you been to any of these places? Tell us what you remember. We want the stories.

A dining room that turns every meal into an occasion. Pattern as atmosphere, not an afterthought 💪

Monday meetings are where ideas get passed around, samples get pulled, and new wallpaper projects start to take shape.

And yes, a little caffeine pick-me-up is usually part of the process.

SHE SHOOTS OTHER PEOPLE’S HOUSES
Then she did her own - in Club Paradise 🌴

When one of our favorite interior photographers reaches out about using one of our patterns in her home office, the answer is a hell yes! 🙌🏼 Charlotte Lea Bailey has shot our wallpapers for designers for years. She has a unique ability to capture the essence of a room, so watching her turn the camera on her own workspace is a real treat.

“Club Paradise was an easy decision for us because it felt like a natural continuation of what we already see outside. We’re surrounded by palm trees, and the room next to the office has a wall of windows looking straight out into them, so as you move into the office, the wallpaper almost feels like that view just carries on. It really brought the outside in, but with a little more personality”. — Charlotte Lea

A pattern for the dreamers who’d rather be at sea, our Sail Away wallpaper doesn’t whisper nautical - it means it! ⛵️

Available in 4 colorways.

Thanks for the love Paul +
