I came across some quarter-frame, toy camera prints and was reminded of how piano/synths have been interwoven into the fabric of my life from a very young age. I’ve been playing piano off and on since childhood and synths since I asked my parents for a keyboard for my birthday in high school. Any time I had a bad day after school (or a good day), I’d get on the keys and let my fingers wander to soothe, decompress, and get lost.

In addition to “real” synths, we’ve had countless vintage and thrift store keyboards over the years. It’s a slippery slope from Yamaha Portasound to boutique Eurorack, and we’re trying to keep our footing as best we can. There’s an element of joy and freedom in playing little synths with tiny keys, not unlike taking photos with a toy camera.
 
We’ve had synths on all our records (even when some things that sounded like synths were actually guitars), and we’re really leaning into them on the new album. In a way it feels like coming home to feature more synth explorations and sounds –while sharing an additional side of ourselves and our musical lives.
 
It’s going to be a minute, but we can’t wait to share it with you!

Just popping up to say hey. How’s everyone’s summer? (aside from the ever-present existential sense of impending doom). We’ve been deep at it holed up in the studio and finding moments of beauty and connection in the beautiful PNW in the moments between.

Some nights are just special. This was one of them. Community, celebration, dancing, deep convos with friends new and old, great music, good vibes, creative minds, buddy bands out in full force on stage and off and to top it off sweet venue with great staff. Wishing buddies Mutual Shock all the best with their new EP.

Old Man of the Woods kindred spirits, so glad we met!

Baba Yaga tonight! We’re helping Mutual Shock celebrate their EP release along with Mechanical Plague. Both bands kick out dark, swirling, guitar-driven sounds from the underground. This is a rare live show, as we’ll be hunkered down recording for most of the summer. It’ll be a night of good peeps and dark vibes. Hope to see you there! xx

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the .arts fest last weekend in Seattle so fun and cathartic. We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out and playing with and so many more. Thanks to from and as pillars of the local music community and to .arts for having us. Big thanks to all the volunteers, and shout out to Chris for the amazing sound at the . We’re forever grateful to be part of such a beautiful, vibrant community.

We’ve made it back to the US after a wonderful and gratifying trip to the UK, Germany, and Spain, playing shows, making art, meeting friends (old and new) and cultivating inspiration.

We’re fortunate to return to a great music community here at home in Seattle, and we’re looking forward to playing .arts Festival on Thursday, May 28th . It’s a stacked lineup and we’re excited to be a part of it.

We’ll be sharing more impressions of our experiences abroad soon, but here’s a quick photo dump of some happy moments in the meantime.
