Yesterday, one of our own was seriously injured while doing his job on the side of the road.

Alec, a tow truck operator with Kitsap Chico Towing, was struck by a vehicle while working on the shoulder of SR 302. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Alec was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, where he is receiving care for his injuries.

Today, we are asking our entire community to please keep Alec, his family, and the entire Kitsap Chico Towing family in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

For everyone who works along our roadways, this is a reminder that the shoulder is not a safe place.

Tow operators, law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, WSDOT crews, road workers, utility workers, and countless others put themselves in vulnerable positions every single day to help others. We cannot control the choices other drivers make. But we can stay alert. We can keep our heads on a swivel. We can watch for lights, signs, cones, people, and vehicles on the shoulder. And when you see emergency lights or roadside workers ahead:
SLOW DOWN AND
MOVE OVER WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.
GIVE THEM SPACE.

The goal is simple: Everyone deserves to make it home at the end of their shift.

Please share this. Talk to your family. Talk to your teenagers. Talk to the people you work with.

Because the person standing on that shoulder could be someone you love.

🙏 Prayers for Alec. Prayers for his family. Prayers for Kitsap Chico Towing. And prayers for every roadside worker who puts their life on the line to help others.

Slow Down AND Move Over Washington.

A tow truck driver was struck by a vehicle while on the shoulder of SR 302 near E Nahum Ln, preparing to remove a vehicle from a previous crash. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and the tow operator was airlifted to Harborview with a broken ankle.

This is exactly why Slow Down, Move Over matters.

When you see a tow truck, emergency vehicle, or roadside worker on the shoulder, please slow down, move over when it is safe to do so, and give them room to work.

We want every tow operator to make it home at the end of their shift.

Please keep this operator in your thoughts and prayers for a safe and full recovery. 🙏

Washington drivers, SLOW DOWN. MOVE OVER.

WSDOT “We saw two separate work zone crashes on I-405 this week. As you can see, even our protective jersey barrier wasn't enough to keep workers safe. It's impossible to build a perfectly safe environment for crews working feet away from moving traffic.”

Help everyone get home safely, remember to Slow Down & Move Over. Help save lives!

King County Sheriff's Office "Recently our Southwest Precinct Traffic Deputy stopped someone for DUI on SB 167. A reckless driver clearly did not slow down, and side swiped his car, blew out his tire, popped his push bar out of place and kept driving. Luckily, our deputy was safely on the passenger side of the car."

When you see anyone stopped on the side of the road, help them get home safely by Slowing Down & Moving Over. Help save lives!
