๐ Congratulations to Kayla, this year's CBW Champion! ๐
Kayla was recognized by HealthierHere with this year's Community-Based Worker Champion Award. Her supervisor, Emilie, nominated her, saying:
"Kayla has shown a deep commitment to her clients, coworkers, and community. She is always thinking of ways to better serve our clients and community, and will always speak her mind if it means better service to our clients. Kayla encourages her clients to work on building their skills so that they have the knowledge to continue forward even after their work together has ended."
Kayla also advocated for her whole team to be trained on programs that provide meaningful resources to clients, and helped get Neighborhood House partnered with Housing Connector to lower barriers to housing for clients.
Kayla, you're a light in the Hub! ๐

When a mom moved from Ethiopia in 2020 with a husband and a newborn, a cousin gave her one piece of advice: check out Neighborhood House.
Six years and three children later, she's still with us. Her older boys are thriving in school. Her baby sister is growing up in the same program that helped get them there, and diapers are part of what makes that possible.
The shelf is empty. The need isn't. Give today.

On Monday, Neighborhood House joined the No Cuts to Healthcare coalition for a roundtable with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, hosted by SEIU 775 in Seattle. Our Case Manager Viktoriia spoke alongside state and community leaders about what home and community-based care means for the families we serve. Starting October 1, thousands of Washington immigrants are expected to lose long-term care and healthcare coverage due to federal cuts. We hope our state continues to step up for the seniors, people with disabilities, and immigrant families who depend on this care.

Last Saturday, Neighborhood House families and staff headed to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center for a day at Seahawks training camp. ๐๐ช Watching practice up close, meeting players, and spending time together as a community made for a memorable outing. Thank you to the Seahawks organization for the invitation and for welcoming our families. ๐๐

Aging is our future, and King County residents have a chance to help shape it. The draft 2027-2030 Area Plan outlines priorities for older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, and families across Seattle and King County, including expanded dementia support, easier access to meals, and preserving spaces where people stay connected to their community.

Families in our home visiting and early learning programs are running out of diapers before the month is out. Diapers aren't covered by SNAP or WIC โ and it costs roughly $80 a month, per child, to keep them safely diapered.
With funding for this program reduced, we're on track to run out entirely by September.
This summer, we're launching our Diaper Drive with a goal of raising $50,000 โ for diapers, wipes, and diaper cream.
