Thank you Spokane County Fire Dist. 10 for having me and letting me spread love today at your amazing ceremony. The thought and dedication to honor our fallen brothers and sisters does not go unnoticed.

The people that sacrifice everything for us on a daily basis, need us too… even when they think they don’t. Our first responders are always putting others before themselves.
Asking for help? No thanks
Being vulnerable? Not a chance
Talking about feelings ? What are those?
That’s why Tango does what he does. Even if you don’t want to talk or think about the hard things. He’s a really great distraction and gives some comfort in every situation.
Feelings, emotions, processing, being vulnerable… those will come in time. While you work through that, we’d love to be there to help 🚒🐾

Tango’s birthday 🎉 was a bit chaotic, so here’s his official birthday post! He was busy serving the community while people were mourning and grieving, and he loved every minute of it.
For our new friends, here’s a little bit about Tango: He’s a Certified First Responder Therapy Dog. His handlers work with Spokane County Fire District 3 and Spokane County Fire District 10. Tango was born in 2023, amidst the chaos of the Grey Fires in Medical Lake, Washington. We knew right away he was meant to be a therapy dog.
After lots of training and certifications, he’s now able to be there for those who are there for others. He loves bringing joy, hugs, and love wherever he can. Happy birthday, Tango! (August 15)

Tail wags, smiles, and hugs go a long way for our hero’s. Thankful doesn’t begin to cover how the community feels.
Another successful day at the incident command post for the fires. Tango got to meet the hand crews as they were swapping out day shift with night shift.
Did you know that even a short amount of time with Tango can help lower cortisol (stress hormones), increase oxytocin, lower heart rate and blood pressure, and increase serotonin and dopamine. This allows our first responders a moment for their nervous system to try to settle, even for a moment. While these people are risking their lives, sleeping on the ground, away from home for weeks at a time. One little moment in time can help ease that discomfort.. and that’s why Tango does what he does. He wants to give back to those that give everything.

💙 BEYOND THE DISASTER. BESIDE THOSE WHO SERVE. 💙
Right now, our hearts—and our immediate focus—are with Spokane and Stevens County.
These devastating fires have destroyed homes, displaced families, and placed an incredible burden on the firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, dispatchers, National Guard members, volunteers, and others responding to this disaster.
But there is another toll that cannot always be seen.
When the flames are gone and the scene is cleared, the emotional wounds can remain.
Several first responders have already reached out to United We Rescue for help. Our resource partners are also asking us to help cover therapy and specialty treatments that insurance will not pay for.
The need is immediate—and it is happening right here in our community.
But Spokane is not alone.
Across Our Nation, wildfires, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and other disasters can leave first responders carrying invisible wounds for months or years.
United We Rescue helps fill the financial gaps that can stand between someone and the care they desperately need, including:
• Therapy copays and deductibles
• Specialty treatments not covered by insurance
• Essential living expenses during inpatient or intensive treatment
• Travel and other necessary costs connected to receiving care
We are currently an all-volunteer organization with limited fundraising resources.
The hard truth is that without one-time donors and dependable monthly UWR Advocates, we cannot continue filling this growing need—or be ready when the next person finally asks for help.
Consistent monthly support allows us to respond when a verified need arises instead of searching for funding while someone is already in crisis.

Spokane needs us now. Another community may need us tomorrow.
We want to be ready wherever disaster strikes and whenever someone who has always answered the call finally needs someone to answer theirs.

Therapy dogs aren’t just soft, warm companions — they’re trained to offer calm, non-judgmental presence when words feel impossible. Their quiet cuddles, steady breathing, and gentle eyes help lower stress, ease anxiety, and create a safe space to simply feel during times of overwhelming tragedy.
Right now, so many are carrying heavy hearts, exhaustion, and unseen weight. These dogs remind us that healing starts with connection, and that prioritizing mental health isn’t a luxury — it’s essential.
Please take care of yourselves and each other. Check in. Rest when you can. Ask for help. The physical recovery will take time… the emotional recovery matters just as much.
