This is what it feels like to watch a total solar eclipse in East Greenland ✨
Check out the reactions from our guests and team on board Ocean Explorer during this epic day.
Over 2 minutes of totality! ✅ Guests aboard Ultramarine and Ocean Explorer enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime moment today as they witnessed the total solar eclipse.
From Harefjord in Scoresbysund, they were closer to the center line than almost any other travelers on Earth, allowing them to enjoy over 2 minutes of totality.
This incredible experience was years in the making and came together thanks to the preparation and guidance of our Expedition Team and eclipse experts who joined us onboard.
“We spent months planning for two minutes," said Jake Morrison, Expedition Leader aboard Ultramarine, "and it delivered, giving our guests a clean view of totality from the deck. The moment it passes, you get why people cross the world for this."
"I have spent years mapping this eclipse, and Scoresby Sund stood out early as one of the best places on Earth to see it," said Michael Zeiler, eclipse cartographer and founder of EclipseAtlas.com. "Seeing the guests enjoy over 2 minutes of totality from the deck of Ocean Explorer, and the map become real, exactly where the calculations said it would, never gets old”

Fabrice, one of our Ornithologists, shares more about how sometimes seabirds accidentally land on the outer decks of ships.
When that happens, our experts like him step in to help. Watch as they carefully check on this unexpected visitor before safely releasing it back into the wild 🕊️
Our vessels are designed to minimize these encounters by using exterior green deck lighting and reduced interior brightness, or by covering windows in sensitive bird areas.
