We are a community of riskers, seekers, and doubters who strive to be externally focused, internally Union moved into 415 Westlake Avenue North.
What if you had a clean canvas to create a community experience that helped people know God, care for others beyond themselves and enjoy authentic relationships? Sixteen people from University Presbyterian Church were given the opportunity to start fresh and in October 2006 the Union Church community began to meet. Seeing that people grow the most when their lives include community, worship, and serving others, the Union community began to come together in a monthly rhythm combining those three activities. Believing that the city did not need another church building but that South Lake Union could benefit from a "third place" gathering space as the community began to grow. The space was re-purposed to be a venue for the neighborhood, nonprofits, celebrations, corporate events, the arts, and a chocolate café to aid in the growth of the community. Those are some of the broad strokes on the canvas. Other brush strokes include serving at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, with Immanuel Community Services, providing an overflow shelter with Noel House, engaging with the homeless and elderly, and hauling trash out of Lake Union through our fourth Sunday emphasis on serving others We partner with DOXA in building homes in Tijuana, and work with and through IJM to abolish human trafficking locally and around the world. With the paint still wet, Union is a growing community of 250 people from around Seattle in every stage of life seeking to add color and more to the gospel story that's coming together on this canvas. And where did the Union name come from? Geographically we are based in the South Lake Union area, but the name also captures our desire to be in union with Jesus, one another, and the Holy Spirit’s activity in the world. We are looking forward to your brush strokes on the canvas!
Every day in the University District, staff and volunteers with Street Youth Ministries (Street Youth Ministries) show up for young people who don’t have a place to call home. Since 1993, SYM has walked alongside unhoused youth and young adults in Seattle — offering life skills, a listening ear, and a safe place to land, because every person deserves relationships that bring hope and healing.
More than 1,000 young people go without stable housing in King County on any given night. SYM meets them where they are — not just with services, but with dignity, consistency, and community.
We’re honored to call SYM a partner. Union Church volunteers show up alongside their staff, and we help provide resources for the youth who walk through their doors. It’s a small piece of a much bigger story of care happening in our city — and we’re grateful to be part of it.

We had a beautiful weekend at Camp Casey on Whidbey Island. There was laughter during group games, awe during impromptu jam sessions, and quiet reflection on God’s love and promises as we walked the beach together. We strengthened our community over meals and marshmallows by the fire — and yes, the Golden Marshmallow was found!

In our time of worship on August 2 and in response to the message of Acts 6, the pastors of Union Church laid hands on the gathered congregation to send them out as Christ’s ministers of grace in the world. We invited them to give thanks for their individual gifts in making meals, visiting people, praying, sharing the gospel, caring for strangers, making art, creating just systems, teaching — gifts that make this world a more whole place!
Acts 6 was not about being in the temple, synagogue, or any closed place. It was about sending people out to live the gospel in community.
Prayer for the congregation of Union:
We pray that each person will trust that You , God, have not only called them to follow you, but you also equip them daily to use the uniqueness of who they are, serving you with their gifts, strengths, and even weaknesses, to help the reign of your kingdom grow, to be salt & light, and to bring your transforming love. As your people, may they go forth in confidence that in the craziness of this current empire , You, Lord, are joyfully, hopefully, and lovingly changing the world till your kingdom comes and it is on earth as it is in heaven!

✨Wednesday Evening Worship ✨
Join us this Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm for a casual evening of singing, prayer, and community. Come as you are. Participate however feels right for you.
Art and writing materials will be available for those who prefer a quieter, reflective experience. This is meant to be a creative, restful space to pause, breathe, and be refreshed together in the middle of a busy week.

From Seattle to Guatemala, what a gift it was to visit our international partners at Eden ().
Our team of women had the privilege of spending time with Eden’s entrepreneurs and their families, and left completely moved. Eden is a place where adults with intellectual disabilities build meaningful work, care for the environment, and find belonging in community. Through friendship and purposeful work, they are discovering themselves and creating a ripple effect of positive change in their families and beyond.
The space itself is an oasis: gracious, welcoming, and full of life. But it was the people who made it unforgettable. Their joy is contagious, and we are so grateful to have been welcomed into it.
To the Eden community: thank you for inspiring us. We carry your stories home with us, and we are honored to call you partners. Annie and Rodolfo, thank you for your hospitality and for creating an organization that seeks the flourishing of all people.

Pentecost is this Sunday 🔥
Two thousand years ago, the Holy Spirit descended on a room full of believers, tongues of flame resting on each head, a rushing wind filling the space. In an instant, ordinary people were empowered to carry God’s love across every cultural and linguistic barrier. Our God speaks every language. Every one.
Pentecost is the birthday of the Church — the moment the Spirit was poured out on ALL believers, sending them out into the world with grace, courage, and fire.
And this Sunday, we’re living that out.
We’re building a new garden box to bless our neighborhood, and serving an abundance of meals to neighbors facing food inaccessibility. Small acts. Real love. The Spirit poured out in the here and now.
Come join us. There’s room at the table, and in the garden.

Theologian Walter Bruegheman who recently passed to glory, describes our identity so well: “we are an odd people who, specialize in cold water and shared bread, in welcome speech, hospitality, sharing, giving, compassion, caring, in small ways, setting the world fresh.”
