Announcing our new Danny Woo Community Garden chickens’ new names! Thanks for the overwhelming response to our chicken naming raffle and congratulations to the lucky winners! We’ll be installing name plates on the chicken coop so visitors will know who’s who.

🎒📚 Back to School & Ready to Learn! ✏️✨

Our Homelessness Prevention and Resident Services teams collaborated on hosting a Back-to-School event for our residents and their families. The event provided an opportunity for children and families to prepare for the upcoming school year while also bringing the community together in a fun and welcoming environment.

Residents were able to choose from a variety of school supplies, books, and backpacks, with options available for children ranging from preschool through high school. Families were excited to browse the selection and find items that best suited their children’s individual needs and grade levels.

It was really rewarding to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they selected new items for the school year. We were grateful for the opportunity to support our residents and help ensure that local students could start the school year feeling prepared, confident, and excited to learn.

Evanna Peng, Rapid Rehousing Case Manager said of the event: “It was great to see the kids' excitement when they were going through the different books to pick out. They were also very happy to be able to select the color backpack they wanted. The parents I talked to were happy that the quality of the backpacks and items was good. Wishing all our students a wonderful school year!” 🌟

Our August ping pong at Hing Hay tournament was a success! Come join us on the first Friday in September at 1pm for another chance to win a gift card and the BIG TROPHY 🏓🏆

Today marks 10 years since Uncle Bob’s (Bob Santos’) death –beloved and legendary community leader, organizer, advocate, master storyteller, irrepressible ham and celebrated karaoke singer, who mentored and inspired countless others in Seattle and beyond, to join the struggle for the soul of the CID and to fight for human rights everywhere.

A photo of Uncle Bob with the note, “Uncle Bob is watching” stands in our conference room as a constant reminder to put our best selves forward on behalf of the community we serve and to always recognize the humanity in every person. Likewise, Uncle Bob’s life-sized image overlooks the karaoke stage at the new Bush Garden at Uncle Bob’s Place, where human connection and joy flourish, essential ingredients that ground and bolster our community resilience. Rest in power, Uncle Bob. We love you.
