When Shalom Plotkin and his wife, Elise Braverman-Plotkin, returned to Cleveland in 2014, they did so with a personal mission. As Elise's father battled Parkinson's disease, the family experienced firsthand the importance of dependable, compassionate home care. They quickly realized how much of a difference the right support could make, not only for older adults but also for the loved ones caring for them. At the same time, they discovered there was no Right at Home serving Cleveland's east side. Inspired by their family's experience and a shared calling to help others, they opened their Right at Home office and began building a team dedicated to helping seniors live safely and independently wherever they call home.
Today, Right at Home Cleveland East and Right at Home Highland Heights offices proudly serve families throughout Cleveland's east side. For Shalom, whose background includes service as a military chaplain and counselor, the most rewarding moments are often the simplest: helping a client avoid a fall, stay on track with medications, enjoy a good meal, or simply have someone to talk with. He believes what truly sets their office apart is the strength of the relationships they build. Many caregivers and team members have been with the organization for years, providing the continuity, trust, and familiarity that clients and families value. Through ongoing training, caregiver support, and a culture that celebrates the people delivering care each day, Shalom and Elise have created a team focused on making a meaningful difference, one client, one caregiver, and one day at a time.

Home is where comfort, safety, and independence come together. As the seasons change, taking a few moments to prepare your home for cooler temperatures and longer nights can make a meaningful difference.

Cooking for one or two can mean changing the recipe before changing anything at the stove.
For a simple, familiar dish that scales easily, write the half quantity beside every ingredient. Check the whole list once: one cup becomes half a cup; two tablespoons become one tablespoon. That way, you don’t halve the first ingredient and accidentally use the original amount of the next.
The ingredient amounts and cooking time are different questions. A smaller batch doesn’t automatically need half the time. This little arithmetic aid isn’t a guide to changing baking or food-preservation recipes.
Write the smaller ingredient list before you start cooking.

The remote no longer has a job. The manual still has a drawer.
If you feel like a small sorting project, match the ordinary product leaflets with devices you still own. Important records and warranty documents belong to a different job—not this joke.
Some drawers keep a very thorough history.
Scams are becoming more sophisticated every year, and anyone can be a target.
Whether you’re protecting yourself or helping an aging loved one stay safe at home, learning to recognize common scam tactics can help prevent financial loss and unnecessary stress.

As the owner of Right at Home Louisville, Frankfort, and Elizabethtown in Kentucky, Brad Cannon brings nearly 30 years of experience in senior care, home care, and business ownership to the families his team serves.
Brad began his career in senior care by spending seven years leading nursing homes, where he saw firsthand how many older adults wanted the opportunity to remain independent in their own homes. That experience led him into home care, where he spent the next 20 years owning and operating a successful home care business.
In 2024, Brad became the owner of Right at Home Louisville and later expanded his ownership to include the Frankfort and Elizabethtown locations. Today, he leads an experienced team that brings decades of combined experience in home care, including several leaders who began their careers as caregivers. Together, they remain focused on helping seniors and adults with disabilities continue living safely and comfortably at home. 🧡✨

That pale shape in a blue sky really can be the Moon.
The Moon can be above our horizon during the day as well as at night. It doesn’t make its own light: we see sunlight reflected from its surface. A bright daytime sky can make that light harder to notice.
Whether you can see it depends on its position and the conditions—not simply on whether it’s dark outside. It’s an ordinary bit of astronomy that can still interrupt an ordinary conversation in the nicest way.
Share this little sky fact with the person who always notices the Moon.

Amie, a caregiver with Right at Home Rhome, TX, is always looking for creative ways to keep Mr. Billy active, engaged, and enjoying each day. Knowing how important both movement and recreation are, she purchased an indoor bowling set with her own money to create a special activity just for him.
After transforming the hallway into a makeshift bowling lane, Amie spent the day by Mr. Billy's side, resetting pins, returning the ball, and cheering him on with every turn. Her patience and enthusiasm helped make the experience both fun and accessible.
What made the day special wasn't the bowling itself. It was the attention and care Amie put into creating an experience centered around what would bring Mr. Billy happiness. Her kindness turned an ordinary day into a memory worth celebrating, and Mr. Billy thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
Stories like this are a reminder that sometimes the smallest gestures can make the biggest difference in one's quality of life. 🧡🩵

A friend brings the groceries. You’ve got a story they need to hear before they leave.
Maybe it’s the film you watched, something your neighbor said or a joke that will still make you both laugh. Needing a hand with shopping doesn’t leave you short of things to bring to the friendship.
If every visit has started to sound like a checklist—meals, appointments, jobs to finish—ask your friend to stay for the conversation you’d have had anyway.
What do you always end up talking about with your oldest friend?

“I’m going to the store Thursday. What can I pick up for you?”
After someone loses a spouse, a specific offer can be easier to answer than “Let me know if you need anything.” They might give you a list, ask to come along or say no today.
If they say no, leave it there. You can still check in another day.
For someone who wants regular help with errands or household work, our Far North Texas team can discuss nonmedical support while they adjust to life at home.

Unfortunately, some older adults experience bullying through exclusion, rumors, intimidation, or other harmful behaviors. By recognizing the signs early, families and caregivers can help foster a more supportive environment where older adults feel respected and valued. ✨
