A special thank you to Mary Kolar of the Montgomery County Housing Alliance, who discussed advocacy strategies for engaging county leaders and shared important updates on the state of the county budget and housing development pipeline.

On Sept. 2, the MIH Board of Directors held its annual dinner and team-building gathering at The Arc Maryland in Columbia.

“We were delighted to have 100% participation at the dinner and officially welcome our newest board members, Brian Silvea and Aaron Atkinson,” said MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens. “Thanks also to Chris Knoerlein for leading everyone through an inspiring and creative team-building exercise. Nights like these strengthen the bonds, culture, and collaborative spirit that drive the impactful work we deliver every day.”

MIH’s Lauren Silverstone, Sarah Hochbaum and Ahmna Khan were on hand at last week’s Maryland Department of Health Technology First event!

The fifth annual event brought together technology vendors and service providers to show Marylanders with disabilities what’s possible through assistive technology and remote support services.

It was a great opportunity to see firsthand how technology can help people with disabilities live more independently and safely in their homes and communities — while expanding choice and creating new possibilities.

Providers 'stuck holding the bag' for unpaid disability care amid agency delays - Maryland Matters After more than two years of erroneous Medicaid disenrollments, communication challenges and slow responses from state agencies, the nonprofits and companies providing developmental disability services say they are near a financial breaking point.

MIH is excited to announce the promotion of Rosa Villalobos to Community Living Coordinator Intern!

Rosa joined MIH in May through Montgomery College’s Behavioral Health program, initially providing administrative support to our Housing Support Services team. In her new role, she will work directly with individuals to help them access and maintain housing of their choice and achieve greater independence and housing stability.

Rosa also becomes MIH’s first intern to complete HSS Certification Training and transition into a paid direct-support role.

We’re proud to have Rosa take this next step with MIH and look forward to seeing her continue to learn, grow and make a difference!

John recently joined MIH as our new Communications Intern, where he will assist with MIH’s communications efforts, with a particular focus on digital storytelling, multimedia production, and social media.

John is a senior Mass Communication student at Towson University pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a minor in Electronic Media and Film. He brings extensive experience in journalism, broadcasting, video production, graphic design, and social media.

We’re excited to have John as part of the MIH team and look forward to seeing the stories he helps us tell!
