This year, we’re introducing a special new feature at the Washington Ukrainian Festival: our Best of Ukraine table, curated by Sandie Stoianovici. Sandie spent a lot of time searching for unique pieces from talented Ukrainian artisans and carefully hand-picking the ones she felt deserved a place at the Festival. Many of the pieces are truly one of a kind or there are only one or two available.
So, over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of them here.
And today, we have a little help from Marianna Grynets.
We already knew she was the perfect person to model these pieces. Marianna has a real love for jewelry and a pretty impressive collection of her own, so we asked if she’d be willing to step in front of the camera. Thankfully, she said yes.
Here are three beautiful necklaces from Ukrainian artists in a workshop in Ivano-Frankivsk:
Multicolor necklace - sponge coral and green jasper with a brass cross, designed and crafted by Nadia.
Blue necklace - lapis lazuli with grey labradorite beads, designed and crafted by Olga.
Red necklace - carnelian stones with a brass medallion, designed and crafted by Eliza.
Three pieces, three artists, and a little piece of Ukraine behind each one.

Before anyone asks where the Ukrainian community was on Saturday...
While Argentina was sending Switzerland home and England was knocking out Norway, our championship looked a little different.
No VAR.
No penalty shootouts.
Just hundreds (okay, thousands) of varenyky.
One team rolled the dough.
One team filled.
One team sealed.
Everyone argued about whose edges looked the best.
The only thing getting crushed was potatoes.
Because that's how the Washington Ukrainian Festival happens. It's not magic—it's an army of volunteers spending their weekends turning flour, potatoes, and a lot of laughter into one of the biggest Ukrainian festivals in the U.S.
So while the soccer world was chasing a spot in the semifinals, we were chasing the next tray of varenyky.
Come taste the results September 18–20 at the Washington Ukrainian Festival. We promise they're worth more than 90 minutes.
Do you remember how over the past few months the Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center turned holidays and gatherings into lifelines?
We celebrated the New Year together. We organized community bazaars. We hosted master classes - people learning, creating, sharing skills - all with one purpose: to raise funds for defibrillators for evacuation teams and first responders in Ukraine. Because when a heart stops, there are only minutes. And minutes are everything.
And now we have big news. 400 defibrillators are ready to ship.
In a room filled with stacked boxes and the steady sound of packing tape, our tireless volunteers - Suzanne Carbone, Steven Dudzik, Raymond Novak, and Paul Van Akkeren - showed up day after day. They lifted, packed, sorted, and built pallets by hand, because somewhere in Ukraine, an evacuation crew may soon open one of those boxes and use it to save a life.
It’s hard to measure what a community can do from thousands of miles away. But sometimes it looks like this: pallets wrapped and ready to cross an ocean, carrying not just equipment, but the possibility of another heartbeat.

2026 arrived with a room full of people - some returning for the third year, others experiencing Ukrainian songs and food for the first time.
At some tables, three generations sat together - grandparents, parents, and children.
Ukrainian defenders were among the guests, and it was an honor to celebrate with them.
We would like to share photos from the evening.
The video is in our previous post.
Thank you for supporting the Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center. All funds raised go toward purchasing defibrillators for Ukraine. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOZU1yMaiCeoaL_zPFYqFe81K_GTk49quC-nuIc4mdrl5p2bnOdsDTBk7GCDpxh9w?key=TjJtbVQ2N1U3WXVkVUYtRk1maG4xUWNkYlZMOGRR
