We are very saddened by the death of our dear friend, Dr Milton S Afonso, who recently died in Brazil at the age of 104! He was such an inspiration and blessing to the Seventh-day Adventist Church contributing extensively in the areas of education, communication, and evangelism. He was also a blessing to many orphans and others who benefitted by his educational scholarships. He provided assistance to establish many radio stations and helped greatly expand the church’s overall media outreach in South America and beyond. He was a good friend of my parents and of our immediate family. In heaven will we learn of the many who were blessed by his influence and generosity. We extend our deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the entire Afonso family. What a blessed hope we have in Christ's soon second coming when we will be with the Lord for eternity and with all those who have fallen asleep in Him! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Lima, the beautiful capital of Peru, overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Known historically as the “City of Kings,” Lima is a remarkable city where the sea meets dramatic coastal cliffs and where centuries of history blend with a vibrant modern metropolis.
Lima Metro Area is home to approximately 10.4 million people, according to Peru’s National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) 2025 projection. That means nearly one-third of Peru’s population lives in this great metropolitan area.

Peru is a nation with a strong Christian heritage. In the most recent national census that asked about religion, 76 percent of Peruvians age 12 and older identified as Roman Catholic, 14.1 percent as evangelical Christians, 4.8 percent with other religions—including Seventh-day Adventists—and 5.1 percent with no religion.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a strong presence throughout Peru. According to the latest statistics, the North Peru Union Mission has 221,611 members in 1,545 churches, while the South Peru Union Mission has 222,204 members in 1,267 churches. Together, that represents approximately 443,815 Seventh-day Adventists worshiping in 2,812 churches throughout Peru as of June 30, 2025.

The Lima area itself is served by several Adventist conferences and missions. For example, the Central Peru Conference, which includes Miraflores and many other districts of Lima, reports 17,932 members and 100 churches; other sections of this vast city are served by additional Adventist fields.

As the Sabbath begins, please join me in praying for the people of Lima and throughout Peru. Pray that our church members will remain faithful to God’s Word, share the love of Jesus with their neighbors and friends, and point people to the blessed hope of Christ’s soon return.
