Do you ever finish a meal feeling bloated, heavy, or uncomfortable ... and blame the food?
It might not just be what you ate. It could be how fast you ate it.
In our busy lives, it's easy to eat while answering emails, driving, or rushing to the next thing. But your digestive system was never designed to work at top speed.
Here's why slowing down matters:
🌿 Eating quickly means swallowing more air, which can leave you feeling bloated almost immediately.
🌿 Digestion begins in your mouth. The more you chew, the more your saliva can begin breaking down your food before it reaches your stomach.
🌿 Smaller bites are easier to digest. When food is well-chewed, your stomach doesn't have to work nearly as hard.
🌿 Chewing tells your body it's time to digest. It stimulates stomach acid, digestive enzymes, and bile so your meal can be processed more efficiently.
🌿 Eating slowly gives your brain time to recognize fullness and helps shift your nervous system into the relaxed state where digestion works best.
Sometimes the answer isn't eliminating another food ... ti's giving your body the time it needs to do what it was designed to do.
At your next meal, try taking a deep breath before the first bite and slowing down just a little.
Do you think you're a fast eater or a slow eater? Have you ever noticed a difference in how you feel afterward?

Have you ever held it together all week…only to completely crash the moment you finally slow down?
You make it through the busy days. You get everything done. You tell yourself you're fine.
Then Friday arrives—or you finally take a vacation—and suddenly you're exhausted, emotional, achy, or even sick.
What if your body isn't falling apart because you stopped?
What if stopping finally gave your body permission to speak? Or you finally slowed down to be able to hear?
When you're constantly moving, stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline can temporarily mask fatigue and discomfort. Busyness can also keep difficult emotions tucked away because there's simply no room to feel them.
Then you slow down … and everything catches up.
𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 because your body can no longer override the exhaustion.
𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 because you've finally created space to feel what you've been pushing aside.
𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 as your body shifts from "keep going" toward repair and recovery.
𝗔𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 when busyness is no longer distracting you from what feels uncomfortable inside.
This doesn't mean you should fear rest. Quite the opposite.
Rest may be exactly when your body finally feels safe enough to tell you what it needs.
So the next time you crash on vacation or get sick after a stressful season, don't automatically blame yourself.
Instead, get curious.
Your body may not be failing you.
It may finally be asking you to listen.
Do you tend to feel worse when you finally slow down? What do you notice when the busyness stops?

Have you noticed that some foods affect your body in different ways?
Indeed - some foods work on your behalf, while others work against your body. Wouldn't it be better to learn what foods will benefit you and even help your body fight against disease?
For the cancer patients you know, I share information in Thriving Through Cancer about foods that actually help you work against the cancer behind the lines, so to speak. Have you read the book?
Are you an audiobook lover? If you find yourself listening books versus reading them, I have good news.
I have been recording Thriving Through Cancer: A Whole-istic Approach For Your Journey in audio with the intention of offering it as an audiobook this fall.
I’m excited that the initial recording is completed and editing process is under way.
