❄️ Winter Week at Turning Sun Smoke Rise ❄️

To kick off Winter Week, we honored the season with our Lantern Walk, gathering in the quiet of winter to reflect light, warmth, and connection.

From Frosty Fun to Starry Skies to Winter Woodlands, each themed day honored the nature and spirit of winter. Children and educators dressed to each theme, bringing the week to life through shared joy and playful expression.

Our hallways transformed alongside thoughtfully designed invitations, leading us into a joyful Winter Festival rooted in community and togetherness. We closed the week by celebrating a beloved Turning Sun tradition: our fort-building competition, where collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity took center stage.

Even in the coldest season, warmth is created through shared experiences, meaningful traditions, and being together. 🤍✨

At Turning Sun Clairmont, our recent educator study of mark-making has been an exploration of how children express themselves through lines, shapes, and textures. Inspired by Malaguzzi’s belief in the hundred languages of children, we’ve been observing how the children communicate their ideas, emotions, and stories through different materials—paint, markers, clay, and even natural elements.

A wonderful Winter Week welcome!

Our Smoke Rise Campus has been open for a month now. ✨🔆✨ Explorations of our new space have been rich, multi-faceted, and blanketed in this gorgeous Atlanta autumn. 🍂🍃🌻 New classes will open in January 2023 for waitlisted families, and a few spaces still remain. Virtual open houses and in-person tours are happening weekly! More info on our website.

Turning Sun Tucker had so much fun during Fall Festival! We painted, poked, & smashed pumpkins; made potions & applesauce; and made scented play dough! So much Autumn joy!

Popsicle Days are the best! The Tucker Campus celebrated the last week of school with The Greatest of All Pops and had so much fun enjoying time together in the sunshine! 💜🌞🍉

Turning Sun Schools is hiring Lead, Classroom, and Substitute Educators at our locations in North Druid Hills, East Lake, Tucker, Gwinnett, and Smoke Rise to work with students age 3 months - 5 years.

Staff are typically salaried which includes being paid for the 40-45 weekdays we are closed each year (we follow public school schedules). Full time staff are eligible for health insurance benefits and optional retirement plan. Full time staff can work 8-4, 9-5, or 10-6 depending on location. Part time and Substitute Educator positions also offer flexible hours and schedule based on need between 8-6 Mon-Fri year round.

Turning Sun is the school you always wished you could have attended. Our approach is play-based and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Our curriculum is child-driven and always respectful to our students. We go outside EVERY day to connect with the natural world, and often explore the history, culture, and art of our local communities. We are a non-religious, open and affirming community which welcomes families and staff regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, creed, or ethnicity.

Education and experience are a plus, but not a requirement because all of our staff progress through Turning Sun's Professional Development Program. We seek candidates who possess the things we cannot teach: (1) "character" which aligns with our special values and (2) the natural ability to connect with children.

New employees will also need CPR/First Aid certification (which we will provide and fund) and a comprehensive background check (which we can guide you through). TSS promotes from within so that all staff have opportunities for advancement and growth, and even the possibility to open their own school.
