The Neponset is often called the Hidden River because much of it flows out of sight, tucked behind neighborhoods, businesses, and the urban landscape. But there's so much to discover!

From paddling and fishing to hiking and birdwatching, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

From its headwaters in Foxborough to the estuary in Dorchester Bay, the Neponset River reminds us that we are not just connected to nature—we are part of it.

Last night, we were joined by our Dam Busters supporters and partners at the ICA Watershed in East Boston. We experienced Lucy Raven: Rounds and watched Murderers Bar (2025) which focuses on the largest dam removal in American history, on the Klamath River. It was incredibly moving to watch this alongside a dedicated team of environmental advocates, working for healthier and more resilient rivers.

England and New England share many similar towns, but that's not where the similarities end! Can you see which photo was taken in Taunton, UK and which in Taunton, Massachusetts?

“Taunton” is derived from Old English with "tun" meaning settlement or town, and "Tone" referring to the river on which it is situated- the River Tone. In Massachusetts, the Taunton River is named after the town of Taunton which is home to the river's major tributary, the Mill River.

Both the Taunton River and River Tone have a variety of attractions and beautiful vistas. Comment down below if you have visited either of these stunning rivers!

The Deerfield River has rich cultural and ecological significance. It is a lifeline for wildlife, supporting diverse ecosystems and countless native species across western Massachusetts. 🪿

Its waters have also sustained Indigenous communities for generations, holding deep cultural and historical significance. 🏞️

Protecting the Deerfield means preserving both biodiversity and the stories woven into this landscape.

Mass Rivers recently kicked off two new dam removal technical assistance projects in Whitinsville and Framingham, marking the second and third projects in our growing program. In Whitinsville, we are collaborating with the Blackstone Watershed Collaborative, the owner of the Linwood Mill Dam, and Pare Corporation to advance planning for dam removal and river restoration. In Framingham, we joined city officials and Pare Corporation to begin evaluating opportunities to restore river connectivity and improve public safety at this low-head dam.

These projects bring together local officials, private landowners, technical experts, and watershed organizations to move restoration efforts forward. We are excited to support both communities as these projects progress toward dam removal and healthier, more resilient rivers.
